My 1 year old son is developing a cough and runny nose...we are about to leave on vacation and I'd love to slow down this cold or make it better....do any of you have any tips? Also, any tips on building his immune system before we fly and travel? I just want to keep him healthy so he can enjoy his vacation!

What can I do next?

Probiotics are great and my doc just send me a study on Vit D and how it boosts the immune system. We take 2000 units of Vit D a day and no one in my family has had a cold in years... and I run a daycare!

well colds kinda have to run their course but somethings that might help to make it a little easier are a humidifier while he is sleeping. I also get the baby vicks vapor rub. And I started buying my daughter the yogurt smoothies to drink, they have some right now that are for good immunity. So that may help too. Also if he is coughing a lot you can give him 1/2 a tsp of honey. It coats the throat and will help him not to cough while he is falling a sleep. Hope that helps good luck.

Probiotics! Yogurt contains some, but you'll want a lot more. Head over to Pharmaca or Whole Foods & check the refrigerated section. They'll have a few specific to kids. We use Jarrow brand. The difference is really amazing--shorter colds and some never hit my daughter, despite being in day care. My husband and I take them too! My husband and I also drink Good Belly (found near the kefir & yogurt smoothies). That way, the whole house fights off colds and sicknesses. Good luck!

I give my kids airborne. They have it packaged like a pixie stick and it makes them feel better. My kids are older than 1 so I would read the packaging and talk to the Dr.

with my little girl we use a humidifer and those wall plug ins with vapor action. I also use kids motrin at night before bed. They have it for infants too. Tylenol never has worked for my Daughter and for some reason made her stay up later! Motrin on the other hand let her sleep thru the night! Good luck!

Since he's so little and I'm sure weary of medicine... try Vicks on his little feet at night. Lather him up and put on socks, it helps. :)

When my son was teething he would get a crazy runny nose which would inclue a cough from the nasal drip. Is he teething by chance?
