My little guy will be 3 next month and we are completely stumped for Easter Basket ideas! We don't want Easter to be about the Bunny, as we are practicing Catholics and celebrate religious holidays for religious reasons. At Christmas, we celebrate the Nativity on Christmas Eve and do the Santa thing on Christmas morning. For Easter, we will go to Mass in the morning and then come home for a basket and an egg hunt with the cousins.
So far, we have thought of:
- bubbles
- sidewalk chalk
- chocolate bunny
- little bit of candy
LAME! All ideas welcome... he has a ton of little cars and dinosaurs and "boy stuff". Just looking for a couple of really little things b/c his birthday is in a month so we'll be overhauling his toys soon enough!
Thank you ladies! He loves to do projects, so Lee I will be hitting Michael's this weekend for the little activities in the bins. I'll probably scope-out items for birthday goodie bags while I'm there! Can't believe that I didn't think about books! We're going to try to get this done this weekend, so thank you!
We usually do a large pail and shovel instead of a basket and fill it with small outdoor things and very little candy. Bubbles, small balls, squirt guns, jacks, jumprope, or whatever else there is that the kids need for outside this year my oldest likes marbels
You got some great ideas here but I just want to add that the little decorative erasers and also stickers are cute. They have Easter ones out now at Target, Walmart and the dollar store. Have fun and Happy Easter!
That sounds about right, but if you are looking for something more you can add some plastic yard tools, rake, shovel etc...our son loved them and uses them all the time. Or you could add a basketball, football, soccerball etc...something to get him moving.
You're funny. Those ideas, while "lame" are what 90% of Americans probably give their kids (for those who give a gift).

We always do an easter egg hunt in the house - all the kids have always loved it!!
Really, at this age, he doesn't need much, so save your money for when he is 16 and needs gas, shoes, movie money, glasses, braces. Ok, I will stop.

Where's the chocolate cross? My parents always got me a chocolate cross, big chocolate egg, and a diorama egg. (Don't think you can get the sugar diorama eggs anymore though.) We also had the Easter lilly, which was explained to me very early in life about the 5 petals representing Christ's wounds.
Have you seen the resurrection eggs? My bible study group did something similar (but I don't think they bought the kit--just did it on their own). I love the idea...

I am totally all for candy, so when I suggest this, don't think I am not!
What about sugary cereal? My mom did that when we were kids, she would put Fruit Loops, Honey Nut Cheerios, Trix, ect in a jar or an egg. They were treats that we usually weren't allowed and they are a bit healthier than candy. We loved it because it was such a no-no.
Other things...
-Cars (I know you said he has a lot, but one or two more wouldn't hurt! lol)
-A stuffed animal of his favorite TV show? (my son is 5 and LOVES sonic the hedgehog, we got him a stuffed sonic and he takes that thing EVERYWHERE!)
-Books (coloring or reading)
-My mom does easter baskets for my boys and she always puts a shirt and shorts for the upcoming summer

I always throw in something educational like flash cards or an age appropriate game. I just saw the cutest little bug catchers. It's a container where you can put a bug or a wom and there's a microspic lense on the top so you can really see the bug.
At 3, it sounds like you have the bases covered.
Try a treasure hunt. Get the plastic eggs and put a note in each one giving clues to the next destination. At 3, you'll have to help him, but little kids really love doing that. Have some little prizes stashed around for them to find.

I like to add in some summer necessities, like a floatie, maybe a cool beach towel, cute swim trunks, sunglasses, flip flops... stuff he'll need/want for summer anyhow... I hate to buy junk that will end up being thrown away, broken, or taking up space in a drawer. I'd rather spend a little more on things I know he'll need or want for summer anyhow...
Maybe some gardening tools for kids? Or rain boots? My son also loves the little inexpensive craft projects from Michaels... like the little $1.00 necklace stringing ones, or wooden painting ones... that kind of stuff... My son is 5, btw, but I did this kind of stuff when he was 3 also...
There are all sorts of fun bubble toys and chalk toys now... you could kick it up a notch. The Easter Bunny is bringing the 3D chalk and Goggles this year.

books, putty, videos, I got 2 pairs of Cars socks in a plastic easter egg for my little boy at Walgreens (and princess socks for my little girl), cards, stickers, etc. Whatever he likes would be great :) We are the same - practicing Catholics...so have been teaching them about Lent, will observe Good Friday, go to Mass weekly as always...and are doing an easter egg hunt at home and the basket. My son is 2.5 and daughter will be 4 in July. Enjoy!

I just got my kids stuff on my lunch break today, minus a couple of things. I got them each a bubble wand, a frisbie, a pool toy, and a tub of cotton candy. I'm also going to add in some chalk, sunglasses, and flip flops for each kid.
