Anniversary with a 1 Year Old

My husband and I go on a special trip every August for his birthday/our anniversary, usually something to do with outdoor sports. In past years we have gone horseback riding, canoeing, four-wheeling on the dunes, and to concerts and stuff. We now have a beautiful 10 month old daughter and would like to include her in our anniversary outing. She will be a year old at that time. Does anyone have any good ideas about where to go or what we can do with her that she would enjoy? We would love a fresh perspective on this. Thanks in advance for your help!

*Update: We are looking for a simple family outing, one-day trip, local, low-cost is preferred. An idea that we are considering is an afternoon picnic and making sand castles/swimming at the beach...if there are more creative ideas, please do not hesitate to give them. Thanks!

What can I do next?

grab a baby back pack and take off in the woods. We did this with a large 9 month old. She will love looking around at things and will fall asleep easily because she is cuddled close to you. You can go camping (take the playpen and set it up in the tent). You can do a biking trip ( bike seat or borrow a trailer for her). There are lots of paved trails. Hire someone to go with you (to watch the baby) and you can even do Cedar Point) We took a twenty something nephew and his girlfriend, and we all took turns staying with the baby, and riding, we paid for them to get in, and we got to ride rides together.

When my son was young we chose to spend a family day at the zoo for our anniversary. It was nice to spend it not only together, but with our son as well. We even bought the year long membership as our "anniversary gift" to each other!

Hi C.,
What about the zoo? My husband and I took our now two year old to the zoo at one year of age and he really seemed to enjoy it. We had a picnic on a blanket in the grass and just took a lazy day strolling around and enjoying eachother's company. All told, we spent about $50.

Go to Ludington, MI. Its on Lake Michigan and it caters to kids! They have a beach, multiple playgrounds, state park, and a local downtown. On Friday nights in the summer its "kids night" and they have fun activities for them.

Good Luck!

That would depend on the destination and length of your trip.

Some things to think about is do you and hubby want any alone time or to do anything "adult" (things that would cause a liability... Like rollercoasters together). Perhaps think of taking a babysitter with you. (you would have to pay for them of course... and pay them also).

After 3 kids I have to smile about taking a baby on an aniversary trip... But I would have taken my first as a baby too...

You really don't give a time frame. Would it be a weekend, or a week long trip. Local or destination... It sounds like you are active in the outdoors world... just remember. Baby is still a baby. Do not plan for LONG days in the sun in the hot August weather. And don't jam pack your days. I have found it easiest for munchkins to plan ONE activity a day avoiding nap times and meals etc... Spend the rest of the time lounging in the hotel pool, museum, or an indoor waterpark or mall play area. But all that depends on where and how long your planning on going...
