Hello Everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any good advice on getting a 2 year old to cooperate while trying to get her professional picture taken. I tried earlier in the week and she wanted nothing to do with it so I left the studio frustrated, however I am trying a different place this weekend and a different time of day to see if that helps. Before she was really shy and just clinged to me and just wouldn't do what we wanted her to. Her big sis didn't help matters either. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas of things that they have tried and have worked. I am bringing her favorite stuffed animal along and maybe a book that she can sit and read and look at.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much everyone who responded. We went to Portrait Innovations tonight and they did a great job. Our photographer was wonderful, our daughter was very slow to warm up but he really got her out of her shell and made her laugh and smile. Plus I brought some things along to help the process. I would highly recommend this place. We got some great photos and we left there with them in hand. For some of the places you recommended I will be trying those as well. Thank you.

I don't know if I'm any help or not, but we struggled with this with my son, also. If there's a certain time of day that she's in the best mood, it's easiest to start there. One thing we did that made a huge difference is that we started with somewhere that has a more open studio (rather than a smaller back room- it can be very scary). We also started with a cheap-o studio, one that has the $3.99 sheets or the $6 package or whatever, so it feels like less of a loss if it doesn't work. If it does, great! You got a few decent pictures out of it. But, when you start with somewhere like that, it's also easier to just give up and let them give up. You can do it as a more casual picture, too. For us, we let our son dress up in his favorite Buzz Lightyear costume for it, just to make it "fun." Once he saw it was all okay and not that bad, and he got to be done when he was done, it made a TON of difference when we went to get the "real" pictures taken. Also, find somewhere that you like the photographer. If the photographer is impatient or in a hurry, that's going to make it worse.

One more word of advice- I used to do children's photography- if you get stressed out and worked up, it's going to make it that much harder and it's all over. Let them bring a favorite toy or book or whatever, and make it seem like it's the most fun thing they could possibly be doing. I know that's much easier said than done, especially when you've spent time getting them all dressed up, but it really does seem to work that way.

Don't know if that was too much, but it's what I found to be effective. Good luck! I know it's tough!

We have used Sgt Peppers Photography in Parker FOREVER! And we live in SW Littleton. They are right off of E-470 and Parker road so it doesn't take long to get there.

Basically, they have an amazing program called Footprints and for a ONE time fee of $75 you get 3 sittings a year through their 12th year and you get to pick one picture from each sitting. At the end of the year, you get a beautifully matted and framed panel of all 3 pics! Of course, you can purchase other pictures each time as well and the prices are pretty reasonable. But, you get all the other stuff for the one time fee of $75!!

We use them for both our kids and get awesome pics inside and outside - posed and candid. They do an amazing job and Tom is awesome at making the kids comfortable. In fact, most of the time, I go in the other room, or other side of the yard while he's taking pictures so they come out better and the kids aren't focusing on me!

Good luck-
C.

A friend that used to work with a photographer told me they used to tickle the kids with a feather. They loved it!

We have always used kiddie kandids and they seem to be great, my dd wasn't happy to do pic but they were very patient and we finally got a good picture by the end. You also get the pictures you order with in 20 minutes unless there specialty.
