I am looking to see if any of you can recommend a good carpet/steam cleaner brand. I like the ones with gallon tanks and specifically wondering if any of you have had experience with Bissell steam vacs? My Hoover just broke, nothing big, a little plastic piece on the clean water tank (water sprays every where), but all Hoovers seem to be made the same and I worry about that happening again if I buy another Hoover. Thanks for all your help

I have been very happy with the Bissell Little Green Machine. We have the pet model. It came with an extra bottle of solution and an extra attachment. I am very happy with it. It heats up the water and is pretty good at getting all the water up once it is on the carpet. It is easy to clean also.

Call Bissell they will replace the tank for little $$. I have a bissell too and love it! My tank also started spraying and my valves needed replaced for $1.50!! A lot cheaper than $150!

i'm not sure on what kind to buy since we just rented one from harris teeters. BUT a great carpet cleaning solution is MYSTICAL carpet cleaner. It not only is a solution to clean carpets but other things as well. It's non toxic wont harm your children, your pets or you. I love it! I bought my last bottle off of e-bay but I'm going to try a different distributor next time that I goggled. I learned about it because of a bad reaction my daughter had to a carpet cleaning company's cleaner and then a friend sent me a link to John Travolta's wife's website on their son and how cleaning their carpets and the solution that was used was almost fatal. So for those of us with children and pets I highly recommend trying this product. You can put mystical in your carpet cleaner and for tough pet stains or food stains or vomit etc you spray it on the areas first and let it set and then clean your carpet. let me know if you try it!

If the part on your Hoover is one that you could replace yourself (if you had it), I'd write (email) or call the company and ask them for one. They probably wouldn't even charge you for it if you tell them how you 'love your machine' and 'can't live without it' (but don't want to spend $150-400 to get a new one just because a 5-cent piece broke). I've heard that when anyone writes to a political rep. or a company, they consider your correspondence as representative of 200 people who felt the same but DIDN'T take time to write! Sounds like this little 'cheap' part is an 'achilles heel' on their machine, and I'm sure they've had numerous complaints about it. It's worth a shot, anyway!

I have a Bissell and I love it. I don't remember what model it is as I have had it for about 5-6 years and it works wonderfully well. I had worked for Bissell for 6 years some time ago and loved the products then. I had bought a reconditioned model from them that lasted through everything for about 10 years before even one piece broke on it. I think with heavy use that is about the life expectancy of them. We used it constantly!!! With 2 large dogs and all the family it really served us well. This one I have now is not used as much but when we first got it, we had just moved into a rental house. The carpet was filthy. Since it was such a large house we hired someone to come in and professionally clean it. They didn't get out all the spots so I used this new Bissell that I had just bought and it got everything out. Bissell soap is good too.

Good luck.

I have a Rainbow and I absolutely love it. It is a little on the pricy side but when you see what comes out of your floor ... you will understand. It is also a 24 hour air purifier now as well. There have been so many upgrades to it in the last 10 years. We had an older model and just upgraded to the new ... the shampooer is excellant now it is so much easier than before. If you are interested I can get you set up for a demonstration from a friend of mine. I do not sale them but do believe they are wonderful!!

This is almost funny. I have been researching them online for about 3 days now. My Bissell broke! The water/cleaning solution will not disperse as it should. It's like a dry vacuum now.

I have seen and read great reviews on both Hoover and Bissell. I was actually leaning towards buying a Hoover this time. Now I'm not sure. I've read all the customer reviews on both Walmart and Target's website. I'm just in information overload now. Please let me know what you find out.

I have a Bissell (the one that heats up) and I really like it. When my older dog was living I was steam cleaning carpets once a week and it worked really well. In fact there was a stain on the carpent that I thought would never come up and it came up w/ the second cleaning.

Check out an Oreck store. They have a dry cleaner for rugs that is supposed to be wonderful. If you have allergies, I would go this route as steaming will add water which creates mold and mildew in the rug pads. It may be a bit pricey but if I were to get one, it is worth the investment. We don't need any more mildew at this time of year especially.
