9 Month Old Teething Advice!

My 9 month old is struggling with cutting teeth. She already has the 2 front, bottom ones and didn't have any problems with them. This time around she has had a pretty high fever (101), runny nose, really fussy and not wanting to do anything but cuddle. It's weird because she will be pretty out of it and the fever will appear and then almost instantly she will cool down and start smiling and playing a little bit. Then 10 minutes later she will warm up again and fall asleep in my arms. I work in the health field and have not heard of anything like this, where the fever comes and goes so quickly.

I am looking for any pointers to help her cope through this painful time. We have used the Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets and they gave us almost an instant decrease in symptoms, but now she is progressing to the point where they aren't helping as much. I have tried to give her a cool wet wash cloth to chew on, but she is not feeling well enough to try it. I would appreciate any other ideas to try!! Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I know this will sounds crazy, but my aunt suggested it to me and it really did help my children and my nefew. Have her chew on frozen mini burrittos(the full sized are to big). The fact that they are frozen will help to numb pain and is soothing as well as helping cool fevers. They are precooked, so safe to eat. Realisticly she is not going to be able to chew into it so no mess, think of it instead as the perfect little fingers sized flavored teething toy. The hardness will help stubborn teeth break through and the cost of an appitizer box of mini burrittos is usually around four dollars. My seven year old soon was the worst teether of our six children. His teeth came in two at a time (literally two within a 24 hour period almost every time). He had the high fevers and I hated to give him so much tylennol which is all the doctor recomended(we've switched pediatricians since). While I couldn't do much for him other than cuddles in desperation I started asking around for ideas. This really did seem to sooth him and helped those teeth break through faster which was a blessing! I did have to hand him a couple on different occasions because it was different before he caught on, but he caught on by day two and I started seeing those smiles I had been missing again!

I know infant Motrin always helped my babies when they were teething. Tylenol just never gave them any relief. Also, just another thought...are you sure she doesn't have an ear infection? Both of my kids had frequent ear infections and they never showed the typical symptoms....pulling at their ears, red ears, etc. But, when that sluggishness showed up and the intermittent fevers showed....I always headed to the doctor to have him take a peek. Might be worth a visit just to rule it out and be sure it's just teething related. Good luck to you and your little one!

I would take her to the pediatrician to make sure there is not an infection going on at the same time with the teething...
Teething should not be bothering her as much as you describe.

One of my kids liked the wet rag to be warm, not cold...might be worth a try!

Tylenol will help, also we would freeze baby wash cloths so our daughter could chew on them..

Did you know that the order that your child's teeth come in, is the same order they will fall out?
