9 Month Old Doesn't like Veggies

My son was sick last week and while he was sick only wanted to eat his rice cereal and some fruits. I thought once he returned to feeling better his appetite for all foods would return. Now that he is better, he will still only eat fruits or sweet potato's. I have tried to give him his veggies but he refuses to eat them. He is still on jarred foods or self made baby foods. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat his veggies once again? Or do I just wait it out and try again in a week? Anyone else go through this? thanks!

What can I do next?

hi C., puree the veggies and sneak them in where you can, look for similar colors that can "hide" them. and just keep offering the veggies in their regular form also, but dont make a thing out of it, you dont want a power struggle. hopefully it will just be a phase, and if you are sneaking them in, even a little, then you wont stress about it. take care, D.

My suggestion is that you have one container of fruit, and one of veggie in your hand at the same time. Or in a seperated dish, whichever way you serve it. First give him a bite of fruit, then veggie, then fruit, then veggie. He never knows which one he'll get, and will end up eating the veggie too. That's what I had to do with my youngest, and now he will eat all veggie's first, and then his fruit last. HTH.

If he's still eating his cereal, try mixing the foods you're trying to reintroduce with that, only a very little bit at a time at first, then increasing. The other advice I would give is to try not to fret too much. Eating can become such a huge power struggle because you worry so much if they don't eat well, but you really can't win if they don't want you to. My pediatrician always said if they are eating a serving a day, a few each week, they're fine. And if they only eat one kind for awhile, that's ok too. If memory serves, all three of my kids became super finicky at about 9 months. I tried not to force it and now all three of mine are great eaters. My three year old even eats things like mushrooms and cooked onions. Good luck!!

Try pureeing his veggies and blending them in with his fruits. 1 tsp. to each 1/2 jar of fruit. If he doesn't take to eating his veggies in, at least you can sneak them in.

Hi C.. I would try to mix a little bit of veggies in w/ the fruit and slowly increase it w/ each feeding. That way you are introducing it again without your son really knowing it. Ya know what i mean? It's worth a shot. Good luck! K.
