Help! I do not know what to do with my 6 month old baby girl, who learned how to balance herself on her knees without any help. She has been pulling herself up in her crib, but now she is starting to let go of the rail (she is trying to stand on her own). She can barely crawl. Of course this driving me crazy, she is always falling - she just keeps on trying. I think her crib dangerous =( What's worse is her new skill has given her a way to prolong her fight of sleep. She just pulls herself up and yells.
Is there anything I can do? =(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for responding. My little girl has learned to get herself down (sometimes)
=)
She is climbing up to the couch and walking from one end to the other. I'm pulling my hair out and praying she doesn't fall. She bumps her head and just lays there for a minute and starts all over again. The only time my nerves are calm is when she is sleeping. I am glad she doesn't have any teeth yet! =)

Thanks again, I truly appreciate your response.

Welcome to the beginning stages of "toddlerhood". Once they start moving, you're on the go all the time right along with them. There's nothing wrong with her standing at 6 months. My kids started pulling themselves up to stuff at around that age, my daughter could stand up with nothing to hold onto at 9 months and both of my kids walked at 10 months. As far as the crib thing, the only thing you can do is let her cry it out, unless you want to make a routine of going in her room to calm her down every night. After just a few nights, she'll lay right down for you. If you start going in there, she'll keep it up night after night until you come in. So, don't start the bad habit, just let her cry it out.

I'm right there with you! My daughter started crawling and pulling up in the same week when she was 5 months old. Lower the crib, and be extra vigilant for a few weeks, kids sometimes get hurt when they learn new skills, because we don't always realize all that they can do right away. She may be letting go on purpose because she likes the sensation of dropping, like swinging, etc.

My daughter stands up in her crib as well, often half asleep without meaning to. It took a while, but she is starting to learn to lower herself, and stay down. I wouldn't really suggest "crying it out" entirely, but give her about 5 minutes, then put her down again. After a couple of times my daughter has managed to stay down and sleep, but it was rough in the beginning, soon after she slept through the night for the first time, but it does vary on a lot of factors (teething, naps, etc.) Good luck!

Pulling herself up at this age is perfectly normal. She may be a little advanced, but that's a good thing. Does your crib mattress have different settings? If so, lower it so it's harder for her to see over the rail. This will also keep her from toppling out of the crib. Is she talking or crying? I personally don't believe in the cry it out method, but if she's just talking, I'd let her go. She's just looking for your attention. She wants to show you what she can do! A few bumps and bruises won't hurt her at this age. Just make sure to keep all sharp objects (coffee tables and end tables) protected and if you haven't, baby proof your house.

Hi T.,

My name is B. and I think it is wonderful that your 6 month old is going straight to standing. That shows that she has a very determined personality and will go far in life. I suggest that you put her down in a deep playpen and buy some ear plugs for the yelling. She will realize that it is not doing her any good. Bedtime is bedtime!

I am a grandmother of 3 and they live with me, so I do have some experience with the stress of it all. Hang in there. My grandson (age 20 months), went from A.J. Foyt crawling to climbing. He thinks he is invincible. I have guardianship/custody of my 3 grandchildren and I am raising them alone, so I do understand your stress. Like I said, HANG IN THERE!

honey, all babies learn at very different rates...some are slower to do stuff and some are faster. sounds like your girl is a fast learner. my daughter did the same thing. once they learn a new skill, you can't "unlearn" them. give her some time, she'll evenually figure out how to get back down from standing up. in the mean time, lower her crib matress, but the bumper pad in, and just wait it out. when she stands up and yells, go in and quikly and quietly just lay her back down. it'll take several very tiring nights, but she'll get the picture that it's night night time. i went through it all with my little girl. but pulling up and standing at her age won't hurt her. it's how they strengthen their leg muscles and ankles for when they learn to walk.
