Has she called his ped.already?
One of the things really helped my baby was to elevate his bed by putting a pillow or some stuffs under his matress. This REALLY helped him breathe better.
Another things that his doc told us to do, was to use Ocean's nasal saline and a bulb syringe. BUT she should consult a doctor first to ok it and show her how to do it, because if you do it the wrong way, it can make his nose bleed a little.
Good Luck

If he's wheezing, she should definitely take him in, as others have said. It won't get better on it's own. Even if she doesn't hear wheezing, have her look at his chest. If it's retracting (going really far in each time he takes a breath), he'll need a breathing treatment.

Otherwise, steam can help. I know she tried the vaporizer, but sometimes a steamy bathroom can be more effective. Take him in and turn the shower/bath on as hot as possible. Keep him in there for 10-15 minutes (in the bathroom, not in the water) and see if that helps.

What did she give him? There aren't any cough medicines recommended for babies this young and honey is dangerous for babies under one year old.

Hi, she needs to take him to the doctor my daughter goes through the same thing and he'll need a breathing treatment. she can still use the vaporizer and even let the bathroom steam up and sit in there for about 5 min. but she really needs to take him to see his doctor, not being able to breath is no fun for him or her. good luck :)

She needs to take him to pediatric after hours. If he's having trouble breathing and he's wheezing they'll probably give him a nebulizer treatment. If he's wheezing he needs medical attention now. It's not a 911 situation but she needs to get him to the after hours care right now, based on the information you've given me.

Your friend's baby might have croup. My son recently had croup and had to be hospitalized. She should take her son to the pediatrician immediately. Good luck.

Hello, If I were your friend, I would get the baby to the doctor. I recently had a viral infection which then went into pnuemonia. Then my granddaughter (2 1/2) got the virus and on the day she developed the cough, my daughter was able to get an appointment with urgent care and sure enough she also had pnuemonia. I hope he is well soon.

If the baby is wheezing he needs to be seen at the urgent care asap.

I agree. Take him to his pediatrician. My son had RSV at 6 months old and was in the hospital for 4 days. Of course he got it because his older brother was really sick and got me sick as well. It was probably the same thing in us, but because my other son and I were older we were better able to deal with the thick congestion. Not saying that's what your friendsbaby has but if baby is that congested and so young best to bring him in and be sure. Hope baby feels better soon!

Keep Vicks away from a wheezing baby. While some people notice that it helps, actual research has shown it is at least as likely to cause additional congestion.

This child should be seen by a pediatrician.

There is not much that can be done. A humidifier helps but won't supress the coughing. Make sure it is well cleaned regularly though because they harbor bacteria! Steamy shower room is a good alternative too. I also like the vicks plug ins.
My 3 month old caught a cold from my toddlers. Pretty much all you can do is saline nose drops and suction with the bulb. Dr said you could do this as much as needed.
If the congestion is bad - head to the Dr. Maybe a nebulizer is needed.

Have her take him to the doctor ASAP. The same thing happened to my baby and it was RSV. She ended upon the hospital with pneumonia.
