5 Days of Diarrhea...

I recently had a virus that gave me diarrhea for 5 days, then my 12 month old son had it for 5 days, and now my daughter seems to have come down with it. I also had cramps, a little nausea (but no vomiting), aches, and general tiredness (though no fever as far as I know). Is this Norovirus, and does anyone know anything about it? The diarrhea ended almost a week ago for me and my system still isn't right- some discomfort still. My Dr. put me on an acid-blocker, but I really think it's a virus- any ideas? Thank you!

What can I do next?

Oh my goodness, this is happening to me now. My son has had it, too. Just when I think it's over, it's not. I'm thinking it's a virus though I don't know anything about Norovirus. I'll have to look it up. Everything I've read says you just need to stay well hydrated and wait it out unless there is blood in the stool. All I know is this is one nasty virus...hopefully we will all get well soon:)

Usually a virus it just has to run its course, nothing u really can do. Drink lots of fluids and keep fluid in the kids. Get lots of rest, well as much as your able.

I have no idea, but my whole family came down with it after the rest of the neighborhood had gotten it. I am going to read if anyone knows what it was. I'm just glad it's over. BTW none of our Dr.'s put us on anything, they all suggested just letting it run its course.

My husband recently had a similar illness. It always takes him a long time to get over these types of viruses though. I recently read something that indicated that the BRAT diet is actually not such a good idea. It said that changing a childs diet can actually make the diarrhea worse so while it might be a good idea to include some of the BRAT foods in their diet, don't make it an exclusive thing. We also had a doctor tell us one time to give the child Kool-aide that is diluted by about 1/2. He said that it has all the same stuff in it that they need that is in the pedilyte but at a fraction of the price. We have done this every time one of our kids has had diarhea since then and it has always help to clean it up.

I feel for you all! I don't have any experience, but I have heard the BRAT diet is best (bananas, rice, applesauce, and dry toast). Hope you feel better soon.

Good Morning A., It's been making the rounds here also. Only thing we have done is use Pepto. UGH. Eat light meals or very little.
Hubby and I got it Thanksgiving eve, so we didn't go anywhere but bed, couch, bathroom all day. All the symptoms are gone but at times we still feel queasy. Dr's really don't want you to come in unless it is really really bad. Drink lots of fluids, toast, crackers.

Our one yr old gr son is cutting teeth, his back molars and has diarrhea very bad, we keep him hydrated with pedialyte.

It seems whatever this is keeps coming back to all of us, some times in lesser degrees. It's still frustrating to feel so yucky a lot.

Hope you all get better very soon

unfortunately when you have a virus, all you can do is treat the symptoms and just ride it out. Watch that the children dont get dehydated when they have this by maybe putting them on pedialyte, and BRAT diets for the diarrhea. keep the fluid coming in them, popsicles, water, etc, anything UNSUGARED!! Remember that sugar will cause diarrhea! A BRAT diet is: Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast(dry). Can eat all of that you want, but...nothi8ng else! tylenol for temps and aches. Relax and allow yourself to get better!
