I have a 4 month old that does not sleep at night. He takes "normal" naps during the day (2-3 hour naps between 6:30 am & 9:00 pm); however, he wakes up 4 to 5 times a night. Usually he just ants binkie back & once a night he wants a baba. I can't just let him fuss as he is sharing a room with his 2 yar old sister. How do I get him to sleep at night????????

PLEASE HELP!!!

What can I do next?

Ok, you're going to hate this but.... He's 4 months old, the vast majority of babies this age are irregular sleepers. No, you shouldn't just let him fuss at night. If a baby this age cries at night you should go and comfort him. It isn't until 6 months of age that experts suggest you allow the baby to fuss and learn to self soothe. At 4 months when baby wakes up you go and provide comfort and whatever else the baby needs until they go back to sleep. The best way to get him to sleep, in my opinion, is just to provide minimal interaction and comfort that way your aren't encouraging him to call you in for visits. The less you have to offer the less likely he is to fuss for you. But you can't expect much from a 4 month old.

he wont... sorry - but, your two year old will most likely sleep through 95% of the crying. all of my kids had an infant in the room with them starting at about 18 months of age.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but i've heard that if you put a t-shirt or something of yours close to the baby at night he will feel more comforted because he can smell you. Maybe it will help him sleep longer. It's worth a shot to try it.... good luck!

My son didn't sleep through the night until he was 2. Babies need to eat in the middle of the night, often until over 1 year of age. I felt that my son needed his middle of the night feeding until at least 18 months. If all he needs is your comfort perhaps you should bring him to bed with you. If you're interested the article below explains why touching your infant is critical to neurological development. It includes while your child is sleeping.

Do you have a portable crib you can put in the living room for the time being to let him fuss a bit on his own? I am really not gonna try and give you too much of an answer because both mine slept with us in fact the youngest is still transitioning out of our room right now. But try a bassinett if he hasnt grown out of one or a portable crib and see if that works. My youngest still will get up once or twice a night for a baba. SO breaking them of the habit is the best thing I have heard. Also if this just started he could be teething and it is bother ing him big time. My second had the worst time with teeth. in fact bordy my older had all his teeth before he was one and gieger is still trying to get them all in. So try a little baby tylenol before too see if that helps!! Good luck!!

My son ended up sleeping in his swing after a upper respiratory infection when he was 1 1/2 months old. He fussed every time he was placed on his back in his crib since then. He started rolling over around 3 1/2 months and the Doctor oked him to sleep on his tummy. Since then sleeping has been a breeze.
