2 Month Old Waking up Within Minutes After Putting Her down Asleep

I feed my LO a full bottle (4 oz.), burp her, she then she falls asleep. I then put her down asleep swaddled in blanket and within 10 - 20 minutes she wakes up. Since I supplement my breastfeeding with formula, I will sometimes nurse her thinking she is still hungry and again, I put her down to sleep and she wakes up again. I should say she is bit of a fussy baby. Has anyone else experienced this? Perhaps it's gas?? I don't know

What can I do next?

My so would wake up as soon as we laid him in the crib. We used one of the heartbeat bears. He would go back to sleep right away.

It could be gas. At that age my sons took paci's cause they could not sooth themselves. I know some are aposed to giving them one but that was the only way mine would sleep.

Good luck and God Bless!

Are you laying her down in her crib? Two of my three were reflux babies. They slept in a cocoon swing for at least the first three months, one longer. My husband can't eat a full meal and then lay down and neither could my kids. You won't spoil her, I promise. If she needs meds, that's okay too. It happens. I would hate to have to try and sleep with my throat on fire! Ask your pedi at the next visit, or schedule a visit sooner if you've already had your two month visit.

If you are putting her to sleep in her crib and it's not reflux, try warming the sheets with a warm (not boiling) water bottle.

Is she unhappy when she wakes up? It's possible that she has mild reflux and that's waking her up. Try propping the head of her crib on some books (just put them under the legs on one side) so that she's sleeping with her head elevated. That might help...

It sounds like she might be a 'high needs' baby. My first one was the same way. I believe Dr. Sears has written a few books regarding high needs babies. You might also want to look into attachment parenting as well.

hi! i have a 2 1/2 month old baby too and she is currently sleeping 8 hrs a night, and her nap schedule is 2hrs in the am, 2 hrs in the pm. I also supplement bfeeding with formula. Same thing used to happen to me, feeding then falling asleep. but after putting her down, she'd wake after 15mins. but it really wasn't gas, at least for my LO. she just needed a bit of help staying asleep.

some books which really helped me understand why the sleep sched is like that and not get frustrated when things dont go perfectly, and most important - get around to helping her form her sleep schedule - "healthy sleep habits, happy baby" by dr. weissbluth and "the happiest baby on the block" by dr. harvey karp.

by LO already formed her nightly sleep sched at around 8 weeks. i've been "sleep training" her nap since then. Before 6 weeks i didn't even try because the baby is too young to be able to understand sleep training.

DAYTIME NAPS:

1. try and keep her wakeful a max of two hours. more than 2 hours she gets overtired and shows fussiness (those little cries that aren't all out bawling, doesn't want to smile so much)

2. watch for sleepiness signs. my LO gets quiet and yawns. after a few yawns i start my naptime process.

3. I swaddle like you do - but i tie a very soft cloth around the middle like a little gift to keep the swaddle closed if she starts to fidget while sleeping.

4. I have a white noise maker. downloaded an app on itunes - 'white noise baby' only 99c and has a bunch of options on white noise sounds. my baby prefers 'air conditioner' but it was trial and error before we discovered that favorite white noise, and play it with a little speaker beside her ears on a comfortable level, 1 hr timer.

5. I put her down in her crib. no rocking motions. she is awake for about 10mins then goes to sleep for 1 1/2 to 2 hrs.

NIGHT SLEEP:

1. start sleep process with a warm bath

2. feed full bottle of formula (i used to breastfeed, but i noticed she gets up a bit earlier, so i bfeed during the day) in a darkened room with only a crib projector going with the lullaby songs. we were lucky to be gifted with a vtech lullaby bear crib projector. runs 10 mins just enough for her to finish a bottle.

3. i always burp before sleeping for comfort.

4. swaddling with the tie around the middle, we put her in her combi melody auto swing. this is a slow rocking motion. also on automatic timer for 15mins

5. we keep the projector on for one more cycle, but turn off the lullaby music. we have turned on the white noise again on timer for 1 hr.

sometimes we have to cycle the projector and auto swing one more time. but baby is about half asleep and this puts her into her deep sleep.

VOILA! have had a happy, well rested baby for the last 2 weeks :) hope these tips help you. i am a sleeper and being sleep deprived for the first few weeks was a terrible strain on me, i got super cranky with my husband and really let my physical appearance go :) that really prompted me to get those books and get my baby's sleep schedule in order.

With a 2 month old it could be a lot of reasons - hunger, gas, reflux. If she is fussy, it probably could be reflux. Check with her pedi. Or maybe she is too cold or too warm.

Mine wouldn't sleep unless she was in a swing or next to me. She slept in a swing until she was about 5 months old. We did the whole swaddle, shush, swing, etc. thing. Worked for us.

She also had reflux bad when she was little bitty because I had an oversupply issue - but that was obvious. It wasn't waking up and a little fussing, it was screaming in pain.

My son has reflux and was the same way. We needed to put him on some medication for it. Also though, she's pretty little. If you are holding her and then putting her in a crib or bassinet, maybe she's just not comfortable. Have you tried letting her sleep in a swing? Or bouncy chair?

my daughter has reflux and is on meds for it.. try keeping your little one up right for 30-45 mins after eating before trying to put her down. Talk to the doc about the fussyness.. my doc said that if my little one was fussy and we could not calm her to let him know.

I also let her sleep in the swing, and bouncer, both keep her more upright.

Good luck

My oldest did that all the time. So frustrating!!! Have you tried using the swing for naps? Worked wonders with my boys. They would sleep so much better there then in their crib. My youngest usually slept in his carseat. I think both the swing and the carseat just help them feel nice and cozy and safe. It really worked for us!

2 months is very young. It's really common for them to pretty much have no rhyme or reason or consistency to their schedule for the first few months. Hang in there. As she get's older, she'll get better. Promise!
