My two month old daughter up until the past two nights has been a good sleeper. She wakes up usually twice in the night for a feeding but goes right back to sleep and sleeps soundly. THe past two nights has been HORRIBLE. She is still sleeping well during the day but has been incredible antsy at night. I have made adjustments thinking she was hot...or cold...swaddled....not swaddled...elevated...flat...i have done everything and the only place i can get her to comfortable rest is in her infant carrier (the car seat!!!) Any ideas on what the issue could be...am i missing something...if its the car seat she wants is it bad to let her sleep there? HELP...i have three other children as well so we all need our sleep.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Turned out to be acid reflux....two visits to the dr, getting on zantac, and changing her formula has made her back into the happy baby that I was used to!

I don't have any real answers for you either. At this age is could be a number of things and it sounds like you are trying all the options out there. But I do want to say that sleeping in the car seat is not the end of the world. My daughter slept in hers for 6-7months. It was the only and I mean only place she would sleep for a long period without someone holding her. How about an infant sleep positioner. Maybe she feels better when she feels like she is being held and the positioner might make her feel that way.

Well my sis had to have her little one sleep in the carrier for months due to acid reflux so it can't be bad to let her sleep in there, but it might make it hard to get her to sleep when not in her carrier. I'd try the sleep positioners first.

My best guesses are reflux or an ear infection. My daughter was about the same age when she started sounding really congested only when she slept at night. It ended up being "silent reflux". You may want to check in with the pediatrician to rule out these 2. My kids both show first signs of an ear infection by night waking a lot.Good luck!

I don't have any answers as to what might be wrong (other than maybe acid reflux or gas?) because it seems like you are trying all the right things. Unless you are trying them all at once, which I would think would overwhelm her, but I do not think that is what you meant!

Unfortunatley, I've come to realize as a parent there are so many things (ie: sleepless nights) that have no reason WHY as far as what the kids are doing. I have two children and my oldest 2.5 year old daughter JUST started sleeping through the night. She was up anywhere from 1-5 times a night (briefly) throughout the first two years. My son is almost 7 months old and he's still up 2-3 times a night - sometimes to eat, other times he'll just need his back rubbed and sometimes he just wants to get up and play (at like 2 am!!!). Since my husband works 2nd shift, he can take him when he gets up to play.

When hubby is not home, I either try to rub his back, feed him and if those fail, put him in bed with me. That usually does the trick.

I do no think it's a bad thing to let her sleep in a carseat, but I would talk to your pediatricain about it. I think it has something to do with neck/head control and the incline of the seat. I'd recommend putting her carseat in her crib if she does fall asleep in there. Do you have a swing or bouncy chair she could fall asleep in instead?

Good luck!

My son had acid reflux and slept in a swing for a few months. My nephew, who didn't have acid reflux, slept in his infant carrier for a few months as well...he just seemed to be more comfortable in it.

Does your daughter spit up a lot? Have gas? Seem to be uncomfortable after feedings? If so, those could be signs of acid reflux. If not, then your daughter might just be trying to find a comfy spot. We realized that my son simply HATED his bassinet. As soon as he put him in his swing, he'd settle down.

It sounds like you're trying all the right things. I have a 5 mo old and will tell you since we've just been through it all that I think as she matures she'll just become more vocal about wanting to be held, carried and tended to. There's no "magic" cure. She needs to start learning how to self soothe too. A little fussing before she goes down/when she first wakes will teach her that you aren't going to be holding her all the time or running to her when she calls. Unfortunately the reality is she's going to need to start learning to "share" you with all the other family members. Take it slowly and she'll learn how to self soothe for a minute at a time. Start now, or you'll be CIO it later!
