Hi everyone, my daughter is turning one this month any ideas on a party? It's so close to Thanksgiving should I celebrate it then? I never had a girl in the cold season so I don't really have any ideas.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your ideas! It's true i shouldn't add her birthday with Thanksgiving. I had it Sunday and it was a hit!!! Everyone came to the house I cooked, we laughed and played and she enjoyed herself. She was extremely tired afterwards.thanks again.

So she's one this year, it won't matter, but DO NOT make a habit of it. Let her have her special day. As one whose birthday is "close to Thanksgiving" (a week later), I often did not get a special celebration while I was growing up. Half my relatives thought my birthday was "so close" to Christmas that they skipped my birthday entirely and gave me one gift at Christmas! I've known people with a 26 Dec birthday complain about lack of fanfare, but come on, why should we miss just due to being sorta close to Thanksgiving?

Best wishes,
K.

I think you should have a birthday party for your daughter that is not combined with Thanksgiving Dinner. I believe thier first b-day is the most important. With my little ones it was the first time they had cake and presents. Also, three out of my four children have birthdays right with a major holiday, it is sad for my kids when people don't want to celebrate their b-day b.c 'we will see them Sunday for Easter'. I belive that a child's b-day is thier special day and shouldn't be combined in with another day for convience. Also, my Step-dad's b-day is December 24, on his 60 b-day he said 'ok that is it, I have never had an actual b-day before, don't come over unless it is to Clebrate MY B-DAY'. Best of Luck!

I think for her 1st birthday I'd have a separate party. However I have no problem combining it w/Thanksgiving in the future. My sister does that and I do it for my daughter. Her birthday is Dec. 29th so if it's my year to have Christmas we do it that day. She DOES NOT get jipped, she gets Christmas and birthday presents and my family appreciates that they don't have to make 2 trips to my house. I do have a separate friend party for her on a different day tho.

disney princesses is a good idea, you can just dress her up a bit after cake of course, with little ones there never is a real "party" but the pics show a million words. Maybe let the older kids cut out some crowns from papaer and make flowers out of paper for cheap dec's.

My son turned 1 this month and we're just going to celebrate over Thanksgiving with family. We don't have a lot of friends with kids, so decorating for a big kid party is waste of money. We thought we'd wait when everyone would be together and just decorate minimally, serve cupcakes, and a lite lunch. We're having a barnyard theme with barnyard animal cupcake candles in the cupcakes, themed plates and napkins, a couple balloons tied to his chair, and a themed tablecloth. Hope this helps. Happy Birthday to your daughter. :o)

My daughter's b-day is the first week of December, as is mine so we have had lots of ideas. Her first was just friends and family over for a nice lunch. Now that she is turning ten, we tend to have tea parties with her friends. The thing with their first party is that we remember it forever and they get to see the pictures. If you do with Thanksgiving b/c everyone's already there, it will be great. Just don't forget the pics of your little one as she dives into her cake. - Enjoy! :-)

Hello...I am a November brthday...in fsct, some times it lands on thanksgiving. Don't skip it. I know she is one but eventually, there will be expectations. This would be a great time to start some traditions for her. One of the one I had was not having to do the dishes if it landed on thanksgiving. Show her that her birth is as special or more than this holiday. Maybe later, you can let her make the choices...such as where to sit, what desserts, etc...on top of the traditional birthday stuff.
