1St Birthday Party Ideas - Dallas, TX

I believe Wal-Mart gives out a FREE individual size B-Day Cake for the 1st birthday. It is always fun to sit them up in a highchair and put that cake in front of them with no utensils and watch them go at it with their hands and feed themselves. It makes a mess, but it makes for great pics too.

We had my daughters first birthday this past weekend. My suggestion is just not to plan a whole lot. My daughter was very happy with the balloons that we had. We basically just set her gifts in the center of the floor, most of them were gift bags. She really liked the paper in them and opened alot of them herself. If there is a sibling or an older child friend I would let them assist. My main suggestion would be no matter what you do, save the cake for last. If you plan on turning the baby loose they will more than likely require a bath afterwards so for the sake of getting good pictures I would do it last. My son turned one in Dec and we basically did the same thing you said. We had his birthday party on a friday evening because my older son was in the Christmas musical at church and had rehersal that sat. and the musical was sun. We grilled hot dogs for everyone (for the babies I cut up grilled hotdogs in bite size pieces for them and fed them cheetos too) for dinner. Then we opened gifts and we did the cake and ice cream last so that we knew no cake or ice cream would get on the gifts. He did open a few gifts but once he opened something he really liked and wanted to play with that was it. I opened the rest of them. We had a blast. We decorated while he was taking a nap so when he woke up and came out he was surprised of all the bright colored Streamers. I didn't buy any balloons except a couple of myler balloons for on his chair. I didn't want the babies to get a hold of a latex balloon and bite one and part of go down their throat. He played with his myler balloons (with supervision of course) for weeks after his party.He had a blast at his party and I'm sure your lil girl will too. Hope this helps. There really isn't much more you can do for this age at a birthday party.

My daugher is turning one this month, and we are planning her party as well. I can't say we have a lot planned, but I did think of one unique idea that you might want to consider. My husband absolutely hates to buy cards of any kind. For our first anniversary, he said he would buy ONE anniversary card, but I had to keep it and give it to him every year so he could sign it for me. It seemed like a crazy idea the first year, but we've been married for 6 years now, and I LOVE getting that card out each year before our anniversary to let him sign it again. I am going to ask him to buy ONE birthday card for our daughter and do the same for her. I think it will be fun for her later on in life to go back and read all the notes/comments he'll put in there over the years.

My son turned one recenlty and I bought a mini journal, and each family memeber wrote a letter to my son. I then got a "time capsule" and put things in it like some special photos, a spoon (b/c it was his first favorite toy) and other speical things. The letters were oriented towards him as a man, since he will be 16 or 18 when he opens it (like dating advice, college advice...)

It was sweet and it will be fun opening it up again on a future birthday!

Since no other kids, just have some enjoyable fun time with the adults like a game or something.

Congratulations on the 1st birthday party! What you listed is basically what we did as well. I think people generally do fun/entertaining type activities when there are going to be other kids there. When it's mostly adults, I think the laid back approach is plenty to keep everyone interested. Just remember to take lots of pictures! Have fun!
