14 Month Old Sleeping ALOT

The past couple of days my 14 month old daughter is always tired. She used to sleep 12 hours at night and took one three hour nap after lunch. Now she has been sleeping in and taking two, two hour naps and then wants to go to bed early. She also has been VERY cranky and this once very happy girl never seems to be happy. Any idea of what could be going on?

What can I do next?

Teething (maybe some molars) is a possibility and sometimes teething can cause some ear pain. My son seemed to get extra sleepy and hungry when he was having a major growth spurt. Sometimes he'd take a nap and it would almost seem like he woke up taller.

My guess would be teething!

I would call her doctor just to be sure, but they will probably just tell you to enjoy it while it lasts. Does she have any other symptoms or strange behavior?

As long as she does not have a fever, I agree about teething. Also could be hitting at the same time as a growing spurt. Follow her lead for now..

Share showing teeth.. "Look at mommies teeth"

"May I look at yours now.. Open wide.."

You may be abke to see them through the gums in there..

Hi M.,
If I was you I would voice my concerns with her pediatrician. See if you can get some blood work on her and check her iron level and everything else. I know that if your iron is low then you feel very tired. So, just have her checked. It may be nothing at all, she just might need more sleep than other kids, but it won't hurt you to have her checked.
Blessings

Does she have a fever? It sounds like she is only awake for 6 hours or so a day and is still cranky? Is she achey ( any boo boos?) Is she eating? I would get her checked out.

Teething or it could be a growth spurt. When my kids were that age that would get really cranky and tired when going through both stages.

Well with my oldest child he slept 11-12 hrs and had a 3 hr nap from the time he was 7 mo old until he was 3 1/2 yrs. My two younger kids sleep about 11 hrs and they napped closer to 2 hrs most days. They probably would of slept longer but had to pick up their older brother at school.
If you are able to let her sleep. Thats wonderful. She might be going thru a growing spurt and needs more sleep than normal.
