So my baby was sick a week ago, minor ear infection, sore throat and tempature all at the same time. My son has never been this sick, worse thing he has ever caught was a minor cold when he was 9 months. So we finished the antibiotics on Monday (10 days) and the following friday I notice him getting super cranky. Saturday came and behold molar #2 was coming in. He threw up in the car (1st time ever!). Had a runny nose, was super cranky and I do know babies catch cold like symptoms when teething. Sunday again, super cranky, runny nose, and as the night went on, he started coughing and I even thought he was going to throw up at night but didn't. He has all his energy but still isn't his same old self. Anyone experience this when their baby is teething? Is it common to get sick again right after getting over it? Plan on taking him to the doctors by Wednesday if he doesn't show signs of being better by tomorrow. Advice? Help :(

So What Happened?

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the advice, took my son to the doctors and yes there is a nasty little bug going around. No meds needed, just lots of water, rest and pretty much let it take its course. Doc said it last about 5-6 days and the first 4 days are the worse. He is doing so much better and being his normal self again.

The nastiness SH mentioned is here on the East Coast too. I've had it for a weekish or so, LO has it milder than I do, but still ... And DH is headed to the doctor today. It's yucky and unpleasant. Could be your DS has it too. Take him back to the doctor would be my recommendation.

sounds like he has allergies. try a 1/4tspn of childrens tylenol. it may make him really drowsy but may help dry the mucus up. does he cough worse at night? if so he may be asthmatic. yes coughing more at night is a symptom in infants and young toddlers.

This question is completely for me but did he have his 14 month shots yet? (MMR?) My son had a very similar episode that exploded into A. autism diagnosis at 14 months. We had a fever and a rash A. ear infection, crankiness. we gave him augmentin and they said that gave him another rash! (uhg reliving the nightmare) then he got better for a week and all came back again and now they are saying it was the antibiotic...of course they would never admit it could have been the MMR. Uh yea because you injected him with a live (but weaker) version of the diseases. of course he is gonna get a rash. And then he had fluid in his ears for like a year and 1/2.
He was so unhappy, digging in his ears, crying all the time, had to hold him to sleep, throwing up fever the whole SHABANG!
That was right when his little brother was born. Then when his brother was 9 months and Caelin was almost 2 they kept getting sick every 2 weeks with runny noses, fever, and cough. This went on for quite a while. I think when their immune system takes a hit they are susceptible to picking up stuff they would normally fight off.
Sorry for the rant! really I am, your story sounds like mine did. I really hope he feels better soon :) I would also call your DR and speak with someone-see what they think. If you take him back to the DR he may pick up something new there. It is a hard call. My kids always seem to get sick about 5-14 days after a visit to the pediatrician.
ETA: S.H. is right...there is something really nasty going around here too, my best friends family has it, my moms best friend and her family have it, my brother and his family too.

Take him back to the Doctor, for a follow-up.
That is what our Pediatrician says to do.. if symptoms continue or gets worse.

Just to let you know, in my city, there is a bad cold going around. ie: fevers, headache, mucus/coughing/sore throat/runny nose, lethargy, etc. My son, was out from school all last week, with this. And he is 6 years old.
Our Pediatrician, says this is going around now.
Even my Aunt has it, and she lives in a different city.
And my Mom had it too. She was out of work for 2 weeks, due to this cold. But she didn't go to the Doc right away, and hers turned into Bronchitis.

Instead of guessing, just take him back to the Doctor, for a follow up.

And yes, a child CAN get sick, again... after being sick. Or, they can also get sick again, with another virus. There are so many strains. Once my daughter was sick, got over it, then got sick again. Our Doc said that that 2nd time she got sick, it was another type of cold virus.

So it can be any scenario.
So best to take your baby, back to the Doctor.
And look out for any new symptoms or worse symptoms.

Colds typically take about 7-10 days to runs its course. BUT in infants or babies, symptoms can be different than in an adult, or it can be worse.
ie: as in things like Pertussis etc. In adults it is more mild, but in babies/young children, it can be fatal.

FYI: antibiotics are typically not used for viruses. Only for bacterial or infections. But I assume, the antibiotics were for his ear infection? And if using antibiotics, it needs to be used, for its full course as directed.

Also keep in mind, that babies cannot "say" exactly, that they have a headache or sore throat, or feel hot or dizzy or have a fever, etc. How was the sore throat, diagnosed?
