10 Month Old with Roseola... Fever Gone but She's Still So Tired!

My almost 11 month old ran a high fever for about two days then when it broke, got a light rash all over her body. I am pretty sure it's roseola, it just fits all of the classic symptoms. I am still a little worried though because even though the fever is gone and her rash getting better, she is still really tired and fussy and her appetite is not great. Has anyone else had experiences with Roseola or other viruses where it takes a baby some time to act like themselves? Thanks for any stories to ease my worry!!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your help and that smoothie sounds great, sick or not!! Today she seems back to her playful, not wanting to sleep, self - I guess I should have enjoyed the rest while I could! Turns out some of her not wanting to eat is plain stubborness - she is ready for me to quit feeding her and feed herself. Now to look up good finger foods for 11 mth olds!!

I would suggest giving a nice boost to her immune system in the form of some healthy smoothies :) My kids and I drink them daily and we're rairly sick. My 6 year old son has only had 2 colds in 4 months and my daughter--only 1. When they do catch them--they are very very mild and disappear in 1 or 2 days. We will never get off of them! ;)

1 banana (you can peel adn freeze them ahead of time if you wish)
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
3/4 cup frozen fruit of choice
2oz of POM brand pomegranate juice per person drinking
orange juice, water or milk to taste (my kids like them more on the watery side)

blend well and serve :)

My daughter had the spike in fever and then had a seizure. She then broke out with Roseola. It took a few days to get back to normal...to eat, sleep, and not be fussy throughout the day. It was a memorable Christmas! But don't be worried, it'll pass. The doctors basically think of Roseola as no big deal. It is afterall, a rash, a reaction from a virus. Just make sure you keep her hydrated if she's not eating much.

Hi,
You may want to check for dehydration. Fever causes infants to lose alot of water... one of the signs of dehydration is the child being very tired, not playful and hard to wake up. They get dehydrated so fast. On another note, if you supplement with Pedialyte (spelling?) I would use the name brand vs. off brand and get the Orange vs. non flavored. My daughter refused to drink anything else... first I tried the non flavored... my husband tasted it, then I did, OMG it was horrible... I see why she wouldn't drink it. Then, I tried to save money by getting the off brand and she refused that too... The name brand must taste better, but I'm not trying it. :)

My daughter had Roseola (exactly as you described) at 11 months as well. It did take her about 3 days after the fever broke to act a little more normal. She is probably dehydrated and maybe a little low on iron. I would suggest trying to get her to drink her meals if she's not eating well to help with the dehydration and energy. Protein drinks can be found in the babyfood aisle and come in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. My son is on the smallish side and doesn't like to eat breakfast, so he usually has one for breakfast and says they are yummy. That smoothie someone mentioned above looked good too if she'll drink that it will be really good for her. I wouldn't worry too much. That fever they have with the roseola really wears them out. The good news is, my doc told me after my daughter had it that they rarely get it ever again. It's like chicken pox sort of. If you are super worried call the docs office and ask, or give her a couple more days and if she still doesn't seem to be significantly better, then go on into the doctor. I always err on the side of NOT going to the doctor, because they usually have something "viral" and then catch something else disgusting from going to the doctors office.

My boys have, at times, been on the couch for days (not typical for 2 or 4 yo boy), I wouldn't worry, their little bodies fight so hard to establish a good immune system that it wears them out. keep pushing the fluids and hugs and kisses and BTW, at 11 months, IT BEGINS! (dun dun dahhhh) your child will want to eat for weeks at a time and then BOOM not want to each much at all for days... this is normal and Dr.s would agree, very typical - sick or not, but VERY FRUSTRATING for mom!!, RIGHT?! no worries, though, put food in front of them, that's all you can do, don't force, go with the flow, they WILL eat when they need to. :) good luck
