I have a one year old son is is not tranistioning to solids very well. One day he eats them well then for the next 2 he rejects them. He has been eating Cheerios & puffs for several months but now he doesn't even want those. Any advice on how to transition easily would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

The best way to get kids to eat is to give them as much control over it as possible. We see images of a lot of spoonfeeding in the media, and so we think that is what we are supposed to do, but children want and should have control over their feeding - even at 1 year, even at 6 months. Always offer choices of a few things that your child can feed himself. It sounds like you're doing that if you're letting him practice his pincher grasp on Cheerios and Puffs. (Be careful, though of processed foods and added sugars. Even whole grain cereals have those and are h*** o* baby digestive systems and often cause food sensitivities/allergies which in turn can lead to chronic infections, such as ear infectiosn.) Let him make a mess. It's all an important part of his process of learning.
Best wishes!

Also make his food into various shapes..use a cookie cutter to cut up some apple slice ( or any fruit). even use it for the sandwhiches and make it fun for him!

Just keep trying at them. Some kids take longer than others to transition.

Hello dear, I have a son that did the same now he is 3 years old and eating everything!!! he loves vegetables and fruit!!! just take the drinks off and make him hungree, start with cerial and add fresh cooked vegetables, start with green peas, green beans and karrots, stay with that for 2 mos. till he recognize that is his food and learns to love the taste then add fruit, if he rejects bananas he might suffer from acid reflex and that would explain why he does not accedpt solids, I have 3 kids and the first 2 ate very early solids, I preffer to coook or steam vegetables at home, fresh and no preservatives... if he crys to much (he is hujngry but refuses to eat, check with pediatrician it might be some thing causing him discoumfort to swallow or reflex... does he spist or vomits often? that is sing of acid reflex. Hope this can help you.

Solids are not easy...I used to puree my son's food but to get to solids I would start making it chunky (veggies and fruit) my kids still aren't great on meats but I would make a roast and chop it so tiny on his plate that you couldn't see pieces I'd also mix it with a veggie. I'm just concerned if he's all the sudden not liking Cheerios and puffs as to finding out why unless he's just burnt out on them. Sometimes I mix rasins with Cheerios to change things up a bit. Pancakes with banana's chopped up and/or mixed with applesauces everything cut tiny or mashed. My only suggestions...Best of luck...
