Good Morning!
I have been quite stressed out lately with a bunch of things in my personal and professional life. In speaking with my sister-in-law the other day, she said that at night, she relaxes with a glass of wine. I am not a drinker however, I would like to try this idea. Now, I just need ideas on good ones. Please help!

Thanks!

Since you don't drink a lot of wine, then I think you would prefer the sweeter ones. I think the dry ones are an aquired taste. I've never aquired it.

A moscato is a white desert wine and quite sweet. You can find some inexpensive ones and they all pretty much taste the same.

Reisling is a white German wine and can run dry to sweet. A good sweet reisling is Columbia Crest. Another is Chateau Ste. Michelle

White Zinfandels are also sweet and I agree that Sutter Home is good.

They have sweet reds and if you go into a liquor store, a good merchant should be able to steer you toward one.

Also, Barefoot brand wines are inexpensive and quite good.

nothing is worse than buying a whole bottle of wine that you taste and don't like. try a wine tasting at a winery or something like that...maybe have a party where everyone brings something different. I always love a good concord (tastes like grape juice) or reisling (Blue Fish is a great one for reisling). happy tasting!

Wine is a matter of taste. I believe you can get a four-pack of single servings in both red and white. Trial, no error. Cheers!

Hi Mama-

I particularly enjoy Sutter Home white zinfandel. It is a nice wine...reasonably priced...and available in kroger.

If you are unfamiliar with wines...I recommend visiting a local winery and do a wine tasting/tour. THAT would be a relaxing thing (you and hubby...you and some friends). This time of year there are often wine festivals!

Have fun!
Best Luck

Do you like a sweet or fruity wine? If so then a white or a blush is normally the best i think.......me personally i like the kosher wines.....they are a dark sweet wine. pretty good actually

I have a glass of pinot gregio most nights after the kids are in bed - it's not as sweet as a white zin but not as dry as a chardonay. I just like holding the fancy glass - makes me feel like a grown up again after a day with the younguns.

I don't buy expensive wine. I'm not a connoisseur by any means. In fact, I've tasted a $3 bottle and a $20 bottle and the difference is so negligable to me, I can't justify spending a lot, so I buy the Oak Leaf from Wal-Mart. It's inexpensive and tastes good to me. According to the bottle, that label has won many awards, so that's good enough for me. The shelf is aways bare at the store, so I think it's pretty popular.

Plus, once people catch on that you like a glass of wine, they will buy you the better ones as gifts :)

There is a brand of wine from Australia, cant remember the name but it has a kangaroo on the bottle. At one point I was really into.drinking wine, I remember that stuff was fairly inexpensive and mellow in flavor. Or reislings are good. When I comes to red, merlot is supposed to be more fruity, pinot noir more dry. You could also try a sparkilng wine or champagne. My favorite drink in the summer is actually a pineapple mojito, bacardi limon, pineapple juice, fresh mint leaves and sparkling water or sprite, mmmm. I have been pregnant or nurseing for the last 3 years, so if I had one now Id probably be on the floor drunk, lol.

It all depends on what you like...sweet, fruity, etc.

One of my absolute favorites for summer is Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. It is a little more expensive than some of the suggestions given but you can find it at Costco for $17.99/bottle. Worth it if you just want it every now and then. I highly recommend a wine saver as well. That way if you open a bottle and don't finish it, you won't have to toss it. Once air hits it, it can alter the taste.

Momto1andahalf is talking about Yellowtail wine with the kangaroo. My suggestion, is you try a whole bunch to see what suits your taste. Have a wine tasting.

If you're not a drinker, then I'd suggest starting with a Riesling. It's a sweet white wine. Otherwise, here in warmer months I like Chardonnay (can be sweet/fruity), Pinot Grigo, Sauverigon Blanc.

My favorite wine is Red Cat. It is a catawaba grape, fairly sweet. They also make white cat, which I hear is also very good, but I have not tried it. I also really like Sutter Homes Zinfindel, and sweet Reislings. I also really enjoy Lambrusco. It is a sweet red dessert wine, but I drink it w/dinner or when ever! My tastes are by no means sophisticated! (I def. lean towards sweet!) You could try ordering a glass at dinner, if you go out. I loved the idea of having a wine party where every one brings a different bottle to try! Enjoy!

I have to second Future Hockey Mom's suggestion. My favoritewhite is Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. For red, I like Ravenswood Zinfendel.

That said, I find a cup of vanilla sleepytime tea before bed a better way to unwind than a glass of wine.

i don't know diddly about wine except i much prefer sweeter ones to dry ones (that's my unsophisticated palate, apparently. wine connoisseurs invariably prefer dry.)
i second the sutter home zin recommendation.
honestly, i really like two buck chuck from trader joe's. i don't think it's two bucks any more, but it's awfully affordable, and for us non-wine snobs, really good!

My suggestion is find a Red that you like. Red wine has heart healthy flavanoids in it. One glass of red a day is actually beneficial.

It doesn't have to be expensive. There is a boxed wine that is called "chillable red" It's a great red for people that don't regularly drink wine. It's inexpensive and easy to store. It's great to have on hand to cook with. You can add fruit and maybe even a little rum to make yourself a pitcher of sangria. It's just good to have on hand.

I love a nice, chilled Riesling (I like Carl Reh, it's pretty sweet, just how I like it). But I also love an old vine Zinfandel (Bogle makes a nice one, it's a true red wine, not a white or blush wine like most people think Zinfandel is). I stay away from Cabernet (too bold and spicy for me) and Chardonnay (too dry). On occasion, I used to like a Merlot or Malbec. Have fun wine shopping!

One glass of red wine works wonders! If you like sweet you may want to try Bully Hill Banty Red - very moderately priced bottle of wine with little bitterness.

Take a deep breath sit back sip your wine and put your best foot forward! Things eventually get better!
