What Kind of "Wine" Do You Prefer?

I do Wine Parties in Metro Atlanta and I want to host a small party for moms only. We are so busy taking care of everyone and everything that it's nice to sit down and enjoy a nice glass of wine. Enjoy it without the kids, the phones, and the husband. (maybe enjoy him after the wine :)

We get a lot of whining from the kids. It's nice for us to get a chance to "Wine". How often do you get to enjoy a glass and what type of wine do you prefer?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your wonderful feedback. I work for a company called "WineShop At Home" and I host in Home Wine Parties for other people. The same way people do Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, etc. except it's with wine. Once a month I host my own party and try to do different themes. As I already stated, my November Wine Party is stictly for moms. I've decided to do 2 reds and 2 whites.

Based on your feedback, I've decided on one of our wines called"Trilogy" it's a blend of 50% Merlot, 34% Cab Sauvignon and 16% Cab Franc. The second red is a "Sangiovese". I wanted to do something people aren't as familiar with.

For the whites, I'm going with a Savignon Blanc and either our "Cloud Number Nine" (for the light wine drinkers, a little fruity) which is a blend of several varietals such as Pinot Grigio, Muscat, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, French Colombard. Or a 2007 Viognier

I think this will suit everyones palate and give them an opportunity to taste some things they wouldn't normally drink.

Thank you all soooooo much!

I like Chardonannays - Kendall Jackson, Robert Mondavi, and Sterling can all be found for $10-12. I see Clos du Bois served at parties a lot, it's usually around $7 or $8.
I don't like reds (gives me wretched headaches), but my husband does. I buy him Sterling Merlot or Cabernet.

Pinot noir is my favorite. I only like reds for some reason. We have a wine night a couple of times a week. Very relaxing :)

We love Shiraz and Merlots..
The Australian Shiraz are excellent
In the summer I drink a little Chardonnay.

I took wine classes for about 2 years and what I learned is that every person has their own taste. My taste is that the wineries closest to large bodies of water, tend to be my favorites.. it never fails.

I like cherry flavors with oak.. So when you go to the store, if they have a wine dept, ask about what you like and listen to their suggestions.. I really try not to spend lots of money, because I have also learned there are tons of excellent wines for under $15.00.

When you open a red wine, let it sit open for an hour before you serve it.. It really lets the full flavors come out..

It depends what mood I'm in and what I'm eating with it.
Some wines and some cheeses are great companions.
Generally I like something that's a little sweeter than on the dry side.
Riesling, zinfandel, chardonnay are all good.
Everyone's tastes are different.

I am FAR from a wine snob--LOL--probably like pop wines the best--sweet and not dry at all. For everyday, I'm liking the Arbor Mist Sangria right now. I hate the dryness of merlot and chardonnay. I just like something light and sweet.

We enjoy fine wines. We have it almost daily.... (Moderation of course)

As for me, I love a great Merlot. I only like red wines so Merlot and Cab's are all I drink. We like Sterling, about $13/bottle for a daily type wine.

Hubby likes dry, oaky Chardonney in the warmer months. Sterling has a good one as does Kendall Jackson.

We collect good wines and enjoy them on occasion. Caymus, high end Sterling, Rodney Strong to name a few.

I look forward to learning about some new great wines from this post!

I love wine... but don't get to drink it as often as I would like. Even my discovering good bottles for $10, or great for $40 mission has been put on hold for a couple years, much less wines like Petrus.

Here are the kinds of wine I love :

Chocolaty South African wines, spicy shiraz/syrahs, complex and subtle merlots (stags leap is my go to, love that lilac scent on the exhale), surprising chiantis (aka chiantis that don't whack you in the face... can you tell I take issue with too many tannins?), mineraly argentineans, bold zins & cabs with a smooth/round finish, vanillan from oak in just about anything, cloudy sakes, dry reislings (particularly from the black cat river region in germany), luscious and airy pinot noirs.

I'm also somewhat of a heathen in that I like the european cafe short glass as opposed to stemware, and always always always drunk with good friends.

We mostly drink Chardonnay and the best one for the price (around $8) is either Toasted Head or Columbia Crest Grand Estates - make sure you get the one that says Grand Estates because the one that is just Columbia Crest is nowhere near as good. The Cab in Grand Estates is good and smooth also.

Another option in whites is a sauvignon blanc that is from Kendall Jackson. Have fun at your girl's party.

I don't really drink wine right now (pregnant) but love Italian red wines, preferably a Chianti. We often have them with pasta dinners, but I'll take them with dessert, a piece of dark chocolate, or just to relax after the kids go to bed.

Ordinarily, we probably would have wine about once a week to once every other week, depending on what else is going on, what we're having for dinner, etc. We will sometimes get two meals out of one bottle, depending on if we have company. If we have an open bottle, I might have a small glass each evening until it is gone and then not really think about it for a bit.

That sounds like a fun party to me, though! Make sure you have some local taxi service numbers!! =)

ooohhh I wish I lived in Atlanta.... I drink wine a couple of times a week...after the kids are in bed....

I prefer reds Cabernets and yellow tail has a a shiraz cab blend that I like and is very easy on the pocketbook.

I think if I was going to a party, I would like to sample something I wouldn't normally buy/try...so whites and wines that cost more than what I find in the local grocery store.

With our kids getting older (kindergarten & 4th grade) this thing just gets easier and easier. But I would say we find time each week to enjoy a glass of wine or beer together while we play cribbage or watch a movie. We also sprinkled in a GNO or BNO most weeks. Something as simply as a happy hour with the work crew or poker night.

My DH and I like reds for the most part. I guess I like a petite syrah. Not a huge fan or merlots. Sometimes like a pinot noir, sometimes is too smokey/woody.

We don't do wine very often (beer drinkers), but we do enjoy one here and there. We love the Trinchero bin 45 Cab, and yellow tail shiraz. I don't like white wine, but can sometimes handle a Reisling with dessert.

I don't really drink wine (it makes me sick, though I don't have this problem with any other alcoholic beverages) but I think making you're own cocktails can be kind of fun at a party, that way you wouldnt have to worry if any one u invite is pregnant because there are tons of non-alcoholic cocktail drinks you can mix too

I love zinfandel. Not "white" zinfandel but the red. That, or a Merlot or Malbec.

I usually only have a glass or two if we are at a restaurant for dinner. I don't have wine at home often, because if I have it at home, I only have a glass or two, and since we don't drink daily, the rest of the bottle ends up wasted. I have a mental issue with that, so I usually only drink it at home if we have company over, so that the entire bottle is enjoyed and not poured down the sink. Hubby tends to drink beer at home and out at dinner more often than wine. But he will sometimes have a glass of wine when we have guests at home and the bottle is already open. He prefers shiraz.

I enjoy wine once or twice a week with my hubby or friends. We LOVE wine, & 99% of the time it's red. We've really been into pinots lately. Sebastiani makes a great Pinot & a great Cab for under $15 per bottle. I also love a good cab franc & I do enjoy whites on occasion, but no sweet stuff. Sauvignon blanc & Pinot grigios are nice. My favorite high priced bottle is Silver Oak (Napa) Cab, particularly 2006, and a bit more affordable but amazing is Rosenblum cellar's Annette's Reserve Zinfandel (they even have it at Trader Joe's) for about $30.

Oh, and in general Ilove a tobacco undertone and smokey, oak tastes
