Where to Live - Flower Mound,TX
Hi Moms!
We are trying to sell our house in chicago and move to TX. I am so unfamiliar with the area that I am trusting my real estate agent to put us in the right neighborhood. I think I would feel better with some other input. We have 2 kids--8 and 2...we really want a friendly neighborhood with great schools and great neighbors. We are not flashy with money nor do we try to keep up with the Jones...we want a nice, safe well kept area to bring our children up in--we also need to be close to DFW airport--I would love to hear your thoughts and if you prefer send me a pesonal message so as not to offend any one should you not recommend their neighborhood. Thanks so much for your input. I need some advice!

We've lived in Keller for about a year now, and truly love it. It's also a pretty easy commute to DFW. The schools are good, the neighborhoods are safe, and crime is low. I have a 6 yr-old, and she is also very active! There are plenty of parks and lots of other kids in the area. Home prices are also reasonable. You can find anything from a brand new home around 120k and up to million dollar homes. Also a number of nice apartments. Good luck!

We moved to Highland Village (next to Flower Mound) last month and we love it here. It is rated the #1 safest community in North Texas. Schools are great, the lake is close, Flower Mound was our second choice. Good luck with your move.

I see there are a lot of "votes" for Flower Mound. I couldn't possibly disagree with that. It is a nice town, it is growing, clean and safe, and my business is there too :) We considered moving there ourselves, but didn't want to leave Carrollton. Our reason was that I am a SAHM and like to get out and do lots of things with my son. We have a wonderful moms group here and we have easy access to three different malls within about a 15 minute trip, close to Plano, Dallas, Frisco, and other popular cities with tons of kid activities. I am sure there are things to do over in FM too, in fact we do go there sometimes; but Carrollton is more centrally located. It was recently named one of “America’s Top 100 Places to Live” by Relocate-America. Our community has also been named a “Kid-Friendly City,” “Tree City USA” and “Texas’ Safest City.” http://www.cityofcarrollton.com/community/newcomers.asp
It is just a little further away, but a straight easy shot down one highway to DFW (about 20 minutes from my house). Carrollton has a mixture of older and newer neighborhoods with a large variation in property prices so you are guaranteed to find something in your price range. I would generally stick to the northern part, and in that case you would still be in Lewisville school district (same district as Flower Mound).
If you have any questions, feel free to message me. Good luck in your decision. I know it can be tough.

Southern Flower Mound is very close to the airport and has excellent schools (exemplary rating) that feed into Flower Mound High School. The school district website is: www.lisd.net

I live in the Keller area. Keller was recently rated in the top 50 places to live in the U.S. by money magazine. The schools are great and you are about 15-20 min. to the airport. I live in a master planned community called Heritage and it is fantastic. There are tons of families! We have a great community pool and spray park, several parks, and hike and bike trails. The area is more affordable than some of the other areas as well (although everything here will seem much more affordable than Chicago). I also love the areas of Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake too but we really couldn't justify the housing prices so we chose Keller. Good luck with your search! I am sure you will love the DFW area!

We live in Flower Mound. It was rated one of the best small cities in the US for the second year in a row. The schools are rated great. And it takes me 10 min to get to the airport. Look up the ratings on google. It tells you why its rated. It is still growing, but not house wise...retail wise. I have lived in DFW for 32 years. If you have any questions let me know, I will be honest. Good Luck!!
FYI..the only thing about Keller we didn't like is...1/2 day Kindergarden, because of all the growth. And if you are traveling to and from the airport during business hours (8-5) you can bet it will take you 30+ minutes to get there. Traffic is awful by Keller.

Hi L.,
Having moved here from the NW Suburbs of Chicago myself, I thought I would have a better understanding of what to look for here. So here is my take on it all. Colleyville and Southlake would be comparable to Barrington, Keller would be comparable to Lake in the Hills, Flowermound is like Buffalo Grove, Euless is like Palatine and Coppell is like Arlington Heights. I hope that helps a little. Knowing the what homes are selling for in Chicago area now, you CAN afford a home in all areas. Flowermound was recently listed as #2 small town to move to. I personally would recommend and in this order, Flowermound, Southlake, Colleyville, Coppell, Grapevine. I like Keller, however, with the massive growth, if your husband were to get transferred within the next few years, the challenge would be to resale your home, it might sit for a while. Plus the traffic is awful! Euless and Irving......uhhhhh NO. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck!
