So here it goes...last thursday I was sitting on the couch with my daughter reading books, my nieghbors walks in and starts talking to me, all of a sudden she was like talking right in my face ( her breath did not smell to good) then I started to get this horrible taste in my mouth like a rotten kind of taste. The next day it got worse not only do I have this weird taste in my mouth but now I also smell it!! I thought I was losing it and something just smelled bad in my house so I cleaned like a crazy person all day Friday. It is now 5 days later and it is still there. I've tried brushing and flossing after everything I eat, gargling with salt water, gargling with listerine, and nothing I mean Nothing is helping. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So to answer everyone's question my neighbor is one of my best friends, we live in an apartment complex she lives right across the hall from me. I ended up having an infection started antibiotics and gargling a couple times a day and it has gotten much better :)

Yeah, I would lock the door and not let the neighbor in or get in my face next time. Could be thrush, strep developing, sinus infection, a cold or virus.. any other symptoms? I always get a weird metallic taste in my mouth when I start to get sick.

Go to a Doctor?
Has anyone else in your home gotten like that, those symptoms?

Now... the other problem is: your neighbor just walks into your home.
Um.... why?
Does she have a key to your home?
I would, lock your doors.
What if you were naked or taking a bath or your daughter? Or napping or whatever.
That is really inappropriate of your neighbor, to just waltz in.
Not safe.
Not to mention, you have no privacy with a neighbor like that.

Smells like that from a mouth, can be:
Chemical based (ie: drugs)
Biological
Illness/infection

Wait...I can't get past the part where your neighbor helped themselves into your home!! New locks!!!

Have you started a new medication in the past weeks? Are you getting over an illness, or feeling ill? Have you had dental work? Are you pregnant? Those are the only things I can think of. Really, your neighbor just walks in? Wowsa!!

SHE WALKED INTO YOUR HOME?!?!?!?! Sounds like she needs to learn boundaries and you need to lock your front door.

now to your smell question...does anyone in the house smell it? when your husband kisses you does he taste it?

Germs/illness/sickness are passed on in many different forms - hand shakes, key board and mouse transfer, mouth piece transfer, breath droplets....

I would go to my PCP and tell them what you told us - and get checked out.

It does sound like it is connected to the neighbor. But there is a type of migraine that is oralfactory. Check with your doctor in case it is something contagious that might get passed onto your family.
I would be very upset if someone walked into my house like that!

Do you have any other symptoms of illness? It's possible, she passed along some type of germs, or it could be something that you just developed on your own. Maybe you should give your doctor or dentist a call.

When I have a sinus infection it seems as though everything smells, but unfortunately, it's the infection. Could have given you her germs if she was talking so closely in your face.......why did she just walk in your house anyway?

what does your tongue look like? If it looks yellowish, it could be thrush - eating yogurt a few times a day will help.

I've also heard that a sinus infection can cause your mouth to taste yucky.

Could you be pregnant? I had a bad taste in my mouth in the beginning of each of my pregnancies. It was a weird taste too and I could smell odd stuff like the plastic plunger in the bathroom was so potent it made me nauseous. Also, maybe it's hormonal like pms or possibly starting your period?

I hope you feel better soon:)

I'm not sure if this is a real question. Your neighbor just walked into your house, got in your face, and started talking?

On the other hand, a bad taste in your mouth could be a lot of things, from trapped food that's basically rotted to any number of illnesses. If this is an actual issue, get checked out by your doctor.

Are you taking antibiotics? Sometimes they can leave a metallic or unpleasant taste in your mouth.

Two issues:

Neighbor walking into your home---uninvitied???? Not ok... You need to lock your door and set some boundaries.

2. The smell in your mouth and taste---you could have a sinus infection. Go to the doctor and get checked out . GL

Well, maybe it's an Ohio thing........... the neighbor walking in, I mean. Some of us neighbors are also really good friends, and we DO just walk in to our friends' houses. Has anyone ever seen "I Love Lucy"? : )

We know when it's okay to do it, such as after breakfast when it might get us a cup of coffee, or in the evening when it will probably mean a glass of wine. : ) We do it when it's the daytime, and we are sure that everyone is dressed and we have a good idea of what is going on at that time. We do NOT do it when it's dark (unless our neighbor/friend knows we are coming) or if we see there is company or we think something might be going on that we are not part of and is none of our business. I guess we just know each other well enough to know that.

Some of us (not everyone here does it) grew up doing that. So it's normal to us. Again, this is only if we are good friends with the neighbor. We don't just walk into EVERYone's houses! So I don't want you all to be afraid to move to Ohio if you ever have to! ; )

Back to the question - the only thing I think is weird is that all of a sudden she was in your face. ? Why? And did you get the rotten taste in your mouth AS she was talking to you or did it come later? It is very weird. As everyone else suggested, see a doctor. And let us know what it was.

Blessings.

My guess would be a low grade of strep throat or sinus infection. That is just my guess. For real answers please see your doctor.
