Help, we are wanting to go away for the weekend but would like to go to one of the small towns about 2-3 hours from Dallas. We were wanting to do antique shopping during the day and relax then at night be able to go out and have some fun. Anyone have any suggestions? We might just end up going to Austin but not too sure what we will do during the day.

Any suggestions would help!

Granbury - it has some darling bed and breakfasts, some great hotels, Old Town is full of cute shops and antiques all over. The lake is gorgeous, too!

Try Salado, Texas. lots of antique shopping, food, not so sure what kind of night life, but they have a open theatre there too that has plays and probably music in the summer, my nephew use to work there the guy that runs it is real nice.

Jefferson is cute & fun - B&Bs, antiques, historical home tours, ghost tours, canoes or boat tours on Caddo Lake - it is so beautiful with the Spanish moss and cypress trees.
Austin has all kinds of shopping, south Congress and East Austin are fun for night life, there is canoeing and Barton Springs, driving in the hill country, Lake Travis, Enchanted rock - so much to do.
Fredericksburg is a bit further but very quaint German town with B&B's and antiquing in the Hill Country.
Bonham is not far and I think there are cabins at the state park which has a beautiful little lake surrounded by pine trees - the very small town is cozy with antiquing as well.
Opposite end of the spectrum... Choctaw has been redone into a great resort with a tropical tiki bar waterfall pool, spa, and nice clean casino, or Winstar has the flashy Vegas appeal and a couple of small lakes nearby with cabins to rent.

Canton! Lots of antique stores, and home of First Monday Trade Days. Also look at Mill Creek Ranch Resort at Canton for accommodations. Very nice place. Don't know about night life there.
