Vaginal Varicose Veins

I am 36 weeks pregnant and I think I have a vaginal varicose vein. I don't have any pain but one side of my vagina is very swollen. Is this something that is common? I've had the varicose veins in my legs in previous pregnancies. After my first baby I had to have them removed from one leg because it became so painful. I have heard they sometimes go away in the legs after birth but what about other areas of the body?

What can I do next?

It is very common. I had one there w/ my 2nd pregnancy, it can be a little painful at times but as soon as I gave birth it went away.

I had the same and it did go away. I took a little time as I can remember. If its really swollen or hurts more than just uncomfortable you should tell the Dr. Mention at your next check-up anyway to be sure its nothing else.

This totally happened to me as well and I freaked! I had never heard of vaginal vericose veins until then! Mine was bulgy and purple and quite unattractive to say the least, but it did go away! I would just mention it to your doc next time you're in, but after I described it to mine, he told me what it was. I asked if he wanted to see it to make sure and he just laughed and told me no, that's what it was! LOL! I guess it's pretty common! ;) It's kind of uncomfortable but at least you're not alone!!

I had that in my second pregnancy. My doctor said it was more like a hemroid than a varicose vein. If it gets uncomfortable tucks pads work great to sooth the area. Mine went away after I had my son.

Yes, they are nuch more likely in subsequent pregnancies. I had them with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies and they were so awful.... painful and swollen. But harmless as my doctors reassured me. And they went away, almost immediately after I delivered, both times. The only thing that can help alleviate the discomfort much is to try to stay off your feet when you can... not easy when you have other children, though. Hang in there. They will likely go away after you deliver.

I had this with my 3rd pregnancy ... it was painful and annoying. The pain seemed to just keep growing on my left side. My doctor couldn't do anything about it and I had 2 other kids to take care of. My dr did tell me it was common with women who have had multiple pregnancies. The good thing is that it went away as soon as my son popped out. Good Luck and Congrats!
