Hello, my 8-month-old son has been teething for a while. Past 5 days, he has been especially fussy. I have been checking his mouth by touching his gum by my finger. His bottom one has been swollen big time, and today I found that his upper teeth cut the gum, but not the bottom one. Is this normal? Any suggestion or experience help! Thanks.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much everyone responding! I guess every child develop differently. A couple weeks ago, his bottom teeth came too, week and half later than the top teeth came. I stop worrying and move on!

Your child's teeth pattern usually follows the parents' and it's different for everyone. My daughter has so far gotten all her teeth in 2 at a time--exactly the same day & everything!

Mine got her top tooth first. And the interesting thing is that she then proceeded to get her bottom two teeth and a canine before she got the other top front tooth! This was considered normal and she is now 3.5 years old with all her teeth and everything is fine. I am curious to know how they will fall out- LOL! Hope that helps...

A.,
From my experience with my now 2 year old daughter, her lower teeth came in before her top teeth. When I asked my mother and my daughter's pediatrician about the way her teeth came in, both stated that babies teeth come in at various rates and locations. My daughter did not get any teeth until she was 11 months and this was concerning to me. But after speaking with her peditrician, she reiterated that babies teeth come in at different times and to rest assure that despite them coming in later they will surely arrive. And this was true indeed, as my daughter has a mouth full of pearly whites. With this, I hope to impart this message to you to not worry as your son's teeth both top and bottom will break through in a timely manner. It may be better that only sections of teeth arrive at a time, as this process is painful to babies.
