Toliet Paper Clogging Toliet
Do you ladies believe that it could be the brand toliet paper that stops up the toliet ? This is driving me nuts. We bought Charmin and then found costco brand. Charmin clogged it weekly. Costco did not ! But they use to be individual wrapped....but now they arn't ???
( WHY?) So is it just me that the indiv wrapped Costco Kirkland brand seems to be a bit lighter in weight then the kirkland reg wrapp rolls ? My toliet is getting clogged again. Is Costco going to sell the indiv wrapped again ???? How do you control your kids to not use too much when they are not being monitored anymore...... 11 and 13 yrs old.

While you can't be ther to monitor how much tp the kids use, maybe let them know that it is better to flush while sitting there and then again after if necessary than having to use the plunger.

I don't know about the Costco brand, but we NEVER buy Charmin, because every time it clogs the toilet.

Could it be your toilet. We were having trouble with our hall toilet and I thought it was the kids and then I looked and minerals had clogged the bit that creates the powerful flush. So if there was anything more than a light pee that darn thing overflowed.
I turned off the water, got as much out of the basin as possible and then added vinegar. I had to do it for a couple days but I think you could flush a small animal now. :)

Consumer Reports tests TP for such things as how long it takes to break down – that is an important factor in whether it will clog plumbing or be a challenge to sewage treatment plants.
Are you pretty sure it's your kids causing the problem? If they can't successfully flush after they use the toilet, they're old enough to teach how to use the plunger. Point out that they will not need to do this as often if they use less TP.
You could also set up a fund that they will get to share for some treat if they use less TP during the month. Calculate how many rolls you go through now, and if they can use less in the coming month, they'll have some fun money left. If they use more, they'll have to contribute from their allowance toward a TP purchase. This will give them an early intro to budgeting.
OMG, Jo, I get this outrageous mental picture of a nice, sane woman flushing an annoying small dog. Too much, lol!

Go to : http://www.charmin.com/en_US/toilet-paper-questions.php then scroll down to Q. Does Charmin test to ensure that its toilet paper is safe for plumbing?
A. Yes. Charmin evaluates its toilet paper to ensure that it is safe for all of the places it might end up after flushing. This includes drain lines, sewers, septic tanks, and municipal wastewater treatment plants. Watch our video to learn more about what happens to Charmin bath tissue after it is flushed.
History of our testing
On-site facilities
Dedicated employees to the testing
Our own "flushability lab" etc.
Now watch the videos. It will provide some possibilities for you to consider.

Easy. Review with them an appropriate amount. Then if it happens again, teach them to use the plunger at the first sign of it being slow. Kids at that age, will be very grossed out at the thought of dealing with it. But really, they will stop and think about how much paper, they will learn a valuable skill and hopefully it will mitigate future clogs.
You may also want to have your drains cleared, too. Sometimes tree roots will slow the flow so that the clog is deeper than what a plunger can help with.
Plunge, plunge, plunge - good luck.

That thick tp is a clogger for sure. Happens to me too. Best to buy thinner, even when they overuse it's still more biodegradable.

We have always used Costco and even without the individually wrapped.. (They did this so there would not be so much plastic waste)And still no problem.
Whenever we have had problems with pluming, we found out we had roots that were breaking through the old pipes (our home is ancient) causing it all to stop up. We had to finally rent a sewer auger to break it all up, but eventually had to have it replaced.
Also make sure that there is not something else that has been flushed down there. Kids are funny. They can find things in the bathroom and flush it.. Tampons, the toilet paper cardboard roll, small hand towel, pill containers.... We sometimes never know..
