Swimming in Clarkston

I recently relocated to Clarkston from Brighton. My three year old has been taking swim lessons in Hartland with their heated leisure pool that is warmer than a normal indoor pool. It also had a zero depth entry and lots of other things that made the pool a great place for lessons (along with bearable for the parent participant) Can anyone recommend swimming lessons in the Clarkston area?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

We ended up going to Great Lakes Athletic Club. The class was great, and my daughter really enjoyed it. However, I do have one large complaint. When it came time to sign up again, they had a small table in the lobby, and it happened to be one time when I didn't go with her. We missed the registration period, and even though the classes hadn't started yet, they wouldn't let us sign up. Pretty screwy. We'll go again, but I'll just be much more diligent about the registration period.

North Oakland YMCA- but it might be a little far for you.

Also- Lifetime Fitness...but I don't know if there is one closer to you than Rochester Hills.

I don't know about swimming, but Clarkston has a fun splash park for little ones. It's on Clarkston Road just west of Sashabaw. Entry is only $1.00 per child. My children really enjoyed it but for only about an hour. I think it is best for younger children. Mine are nine. Have fun! Its at Clintonwood Park.

Hi B.,

I agree with Jill. The class I took at Deer Lake Athletic Club was a little disappointing. Just as she said, it was more like free swim. We did a lot of singing nursery rhymes and playing with water toys. Nothing you can't do yourself. The facility is really nice though, with indoor, outdoor, and glassed-in pools. Clarkston High School offers swim classes as well.

We put my daughter (who was 6 months old at the time) in an infant swim class at Deer Lake, and I was kind of disappointed. The classes were not very structured, it was mostly a lot of "free swim." I have heard really good things about swimming classes at Great Lakes Athletic Club which is on Baldwin Rd. north of 75.

Good luck!

My friend's children just took lessons at Great Lakes Athletic Club on Baldwin Rd. I was very impressed at how much they actually swam/floated compared to my girls!

Have fun!

Deer Lake offers swim lessons, but it is a beach. The classes are run thru Independence Township. Also - Deerlake Racquet club - They have an indoor pool that is fantastic, but the classes can be a bit pricey. Good luck.

Welcome to Oakland county! If you haven't heard, most of the schools in Waterford offer swimming programs. The parks and recreation department does to. Let me know if you need more info!
