I would like to find a summer camp in the Clarkston area for my 10 year old son. He is very shy but likes sports. I thought it would be a great way for him to meet new people and keep him busy while I'm at work I hate to put him in a daycare setting. If anyone knows of any camps that they have had a positive experience with please let me know. We live in Springfield/Davisburg area.

What can I do next?

Hello M.,
My children attend Clarkston Schools and we live in Waterford, so I usually get information covering both areas. Someone already suggested you look at Independence Twp. Parks & Rec. Go to their web site and take a look at what they offer. My son is 10 and daugter 7. I keep them busy all summer long! There's t-ball and softball at Clintonwood Park (offered via Ind. Twp. Parks & Rec.) that is fun. The coach at Clarkston High School, Phil Price, runs the camp with his Varsity team mates. There is also day camp options at Clintonwood Park or Sashabaw Plains Park. Both are ran in a similar manner, offering fun things to do but Clintonwood usually has larger group sizes and a little faster paced in my opinion. They usually go to Deer Lake beach for swimming, use the Spray Park at Clintonwood, do arts & crafts, field trips etc... on a weekly basis. Also take a look at what's offered through Clarkston Community Education. They offer a lot as well. AND...if he really likes sports, you may want to consider looking at Oakland Yard for their offerings. I don't have their info this second but will gladly forward it to you if you'd like. Just let me know! Essentially, Oakland Yard is a facility that offers camps from 9-12ish and then optional lunch club where they stay, eat lunch prepared by Oakland Yard, and then stay until 3:00 ish for free play. They have soccer, basketball, golf, flag football, rollerblade, field hockey etc... camps. My children have been everywhere and they like Oakland Yard best! I've got to run to an appointment but will help you along further. Please send me a private message if you want the details! You'll find plenty of fun things for your 10 year old and if interested some for the 4 year old. Have a great day!

Check with the local schools, some have summer camps through their child care. I know you do not want a child care setting, but their summer camps are much different, they go on field trips, and have many different daily activities(ex. drama, cooking, science activities, and many other things). I know that Goodrich's program does much of this and so does Grand Blanc Parks and Rec.

Hello,

I just received in the mail Parks/Recreation Guide for this summer and they have a list of camps. Here they are:

Soccer Skills Camp - Ages 5-13. They focus on skills training, tactical coaching, attacking, shooting, goalkeeping, fun games and World Cup Tournament. The camp is structured to meet the ability levels of all players from beginner to advance. It is Monday - Friday, July 23-27, Clintwood Park. $90 res/$100 non
I heard was a fun camp if he likes soccer.

Baseball Camp for boys 7-14 at Clintonwood Park from June 18-21, This camp will emphasize the basic concepts used in baseball such as throwing, catching, fielding, base running, and rules of the game. $125 res/$140 non I am putting my four year old in the Pre-T Ball camp.

If you want more info or want to look at their other camps go to www.twp.independence.mi.us and look for Parks and Recs.

I also noticed that you said you are from Davisburg area, we just bought property on Eagle Rd. off of Davisburg Rd. I noticed you have a four year old boy. I have a son that is four and will be five in October. We are hoping to be out there sometime this fall so if you are ever looking for a playmate for your four year old my son will be thrilled to meet new friends in that area.

Have a great day!!!

My ten year old son is attending the Playground Program at Brandon Fletcher Elementary School in Ortonville. It is sponsored by Brandon Recreation. He has climbed a wall, bounced in a bouncy house, gone to see Wall-E movie - all this week.

The program is Monday through Friday 9am-2:30pm. If he is able to join now, he will have only missed the first week. I think it is worth the price!

Ortonville is along M-15 north of Clarkston about 10 minutes. Grange Hall Road also runs into Ortonville. Good Luck, hope you find something fun for your son this summer!
