hey ladies, i was wondering if anyone else was having this problem... my daughter, emmy, is going to be 4 in october, and ever since the day she was born she has had sweaty palms (so bad that all the has to do is clap and the sweat goes flying) and the soles of her feet are so severely sweaty that when i take her shoes and socks off, there is literally a puddle of sweat in her shoes! i can wrong it out of her socks, its sooo gross!! neither i nor her father have this problem, and ive never seen anything so weird! everytime we go to the pediatrician i ask about it and they always tell me the same thing: its no problem. i know if this persists when she gets older she may be teased for it, and i feel like ive tried everything i felt safe to try to dry it up and nothing seems to work. anyone else with this problem? any ideas??? thanks!! ~R.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

OKAY! so it definately is palmoplantar hyperhydrosis, and the drs wont do anything until she is at least 6 years old, which is good, b/c the prospect of my daughter having surgery was killing me! so anyways, poor emmy has to deal with it for now, but things will get better in the long run (before she discovers boys, lol!!) thanks so much ladies for all your imput!! ~R.

sounds like hyperhydrosis (spelling) which is actually a disorder of the sweat glands, they are overactive. You'd have to see a dermatologist to confirm it, but I belive she would be able to do something to regulate her sweat glands. ;0)

Hi- My sister had this problem her whole life, and it always made her feel self conscious. A few years ago she had the problem surgically corrected. The process is that they collapse your lungs (not sure why) and then they sever the nerve that regulates the sweat glands in your hands. You would have to have the one cut for your feet seperately. (my sister only had the one in her hands done). It was a one day recovery and she always says it was the best thing she ever did.

my hands use to leave a slit wetness on the table if i would sit them down. but i have grown out of it. as for feet have you tried powder or cornstarch or one even father have you tried putting deodorant on her feet. also i would ask the doctor about over active sweat glands. may you could research it one line.

This is called Hyperhidrosis, I have a friend who has the same thing. Ever since she was little her hands and feet sweated just the way you have described. Surgery can correct it. I don't recall exactly what they do. I hope this helps.

I had a friend in high school that had the exact same problem. I don't know if she ever found a solution for it though but I just thought I'd let you know that your daughter is not alone! Try searching online and try taking her to other doctors, you are bound to find a name for it and possibly treatment.

I remember seeing something about this on a TV show. I'm not sure if it is an endocronologist that you would have to contact but there are somethings they can do. I know one was botox shots. But there may be something else too. You might want to try to call an office and see if they are the ones that would deal with that area. Sorry for not having more certain info. Let us know how it goes.

I'm 26 & have sweaty palms. Since birth, doctors have just told me that I have overactive sweat glands & that I would just outgrow it, but I never have. It's just gotten a little better with age. They have prescribed me stuff to put on my hands at night, but it never worked. And I think the prescription would be too harsh for little hands. The only permanent solution is to have the sweat gland "snipped" that leads to the hands. It's an option, but then they would have the adverse affect... VERY dry hands. Just give it time. There may be something out there I don't know about.

I have this and it's not the end of the world! It IS embarrassing but I've just dealt with it over the years: papers getting rumpled with palm sweat instead of staying crisp and clean, either wiping my hands on my clothes before shaking hands or just joking about how sweaty they are, and always having to wipe off the phone before handing it over. This will date me, but my sisters used to mock me mercilessly when we'd take turn playing our Atari 2600 because there would be a pool of my palm sweat at the bottom of the joystick by the time I was done. It had nothing to due with being nervous and it came more often than it went. The good news is that there were no other health complications other than that and I never felt physically unhealthy as a result, so I think you can be reassured that it's not a symptom of a larger, weirder problem. I still get it all the time but I guess I have a lot of little tricks to help minimize the effect that it has on things, like having tissue in my pockets!
