Sweaty Hands & Feet

My daughter hands and feet sweated really bad when she was an infant. However, by the time she was a year old it went away. I had actually asked the doctor and they said it was fine and that it's normal in some babies. Either way, it doesn't happen at all anymore.

My stepdaughter and her mother have this same condition. The mother uses a roll on medication from a dermatologist to close up the sweat glands, but it is not good for children so my stepdaughter cannot use it. For her hands she just continually wipes them on her clothes and she always wears socks and puts foot powder in her shoes. She has a hard time with sandals.

I have this too. Doctors say some people just perspire more than others. Try not to put your fears onto your child, she can feel that your grossed out. Try to find a positive. My mom use to tell me I have healing hands. Dont let a doctor give you pills for this. Please!!!

This actually happens to me too, lol, I get sweaty hands and feet often for no reason, but it's not THAT bad. There are some people where it is QUITE awful, and there actually is a surgery out there to correct this problem. My son inherited this trait from me, but I honestly don't know why, and it probably won't go away. Sorry.

Hi M., I know this response is a little old, but I was reading all the replies that people ahve sent you and I just had to add a little something. My daughter is 1 and she has the sweat issue. My pediatrician said that this is perfectly normal for little ones as they are becoming more active and start walking. I really don't think you should jump the gun and sign him up for surgery. Wait it out. It's not an uncommen thing and although it's gross, I'm sure it will clear up as your son gets used the increased activity. You aren't the only one who is dealing with this. M., it's way too early to have him checked by a dermatologist, but he may have Hyperhydrosis. I am 36 yrs old, and suffered from this condition until my late 20's. Basically, the body's sweat glands over-produce sweat. There are medications that can be applied to the hands and feet (when he is old enough to care or be embarrassed about it), but the cure I found was a simple outpatient procedure called a sympathectomy. It's expensive because insurance doesn't cover it, but it was the best $$ I ever spent in my life. If I had known about the surgery when I was a teenager, I would have begged my parents to have it, since I believe it would have changed my confidence level immensely.
The doctor who did my procedure has a website: The Center for Hyperhidrosis. His name is Dr. Reisfeld, and he is located in Beverly Hills. HE IS WONDERFUL AND CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!!

I am 26 years old and my father is 51 and we both have sweaty hands and feet. I think there is some surgical procedure that will remove the excessive sweatiness but I am not willing to take that chance. I've adjusted to the sweat by wearing certain clothes that won't cause me to get warm fast. I wear certain shoes that absorb the sweat and I always have extra tissue in my pocket for moments where I sweat a lot. My oldest daughter who is three also has sweaty hands and feet and i've never done anything to stop it. I think it happens to some and not to others. I would suggest doing nothing right now because your child is still young, he could grow out of it. If he doesn't grow out of it I would not worry about it, I think it's natural for a lot of people.

Here are just a few things to stay away from though if he has this when he gets older: Putting lotion on his hands or feet (lotion causes them to sweat excessively), wearing shoes with the leather type material on the inside, they also cause the feet to sweat more and it triggers the hands to sweat more. Anything polyester or silk or satin could cause him to sweat more. Those are just some of the things i've experienced.
