I was at Dollar Tree this morning and saw that they had all kinds of sunscreen for $1.00. I wasn't sure about it so I just went to Target to get it instead and paid the regular $9.00 instead. I did buy some at Dollar Tree last year but it was Banana Boat brand and not expired so I stocked up. Does anyone know if the dollar store brand is as effective? Would you buy sunscreen from the dollar store?

What can I do next?

Of course, why not. Most of the stuff at dollor stores is over runs from well known companies and sold off and packaged under a different name.

Be aware though sunscreen can block the absorbtion of Vitamin D. I need to wear sunscreen if I am going to be out all day in the sun, I have Vertigilo, my skin is losing all it's pigment. Parts of me still tan but I am becoming the whitest person you may ever know. The places on my skin that have no pigment burn really easy. But I learned the hard way not having enough vitamin D is not good.

It should be effective. Any brand you need to be careful of the expiration dates AND getting new each year regardless...being opened and in the heat all season it doesn't keep as well as if it had been unopened.

That said, you have to be cautious of the type of UV rays it blocks...you want one that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. We use Sun Shades.

No, I would not buy sunscreen from a dollar store (for either myself or my daughter). Check out the Environmental Working Group's website for safe & effective sunscreens. You will most likely be very surprised by what you will find. I use Loving Naturals sunscreen for my daughter & myself. It's both safe & very effective. Sometimes you just get what you pay for, and I think that's the case pretty often with sunscreen. I wouldn't buy sunscreen that's either near or past the expiration date, either. It does lose its effectiveness after the expiration date.

As a family with very pale skin, we use the Athletic SPF 95 brand, or Banana boat SPF 75. As for buying it from the Dollar store, I don't see a problem with it if you just need one or two bottles, but for the most part I am hesitant at trusting it.
