My son has a severe case of hypospadius and will need at least two surgeries to correct it. We have seen Dr. Hatch and Dr. Chang but we are wondering if anyone has been through this and can recommend someone. It would also be nice to talk to someone else who has been through this.

What can I do next?

Hi,

We worked with Dr. Stephen Nold through Central DuPage Hospital. He did my son's hypospadius and has helped my other 2 sons. I know he has 3 different offices but I didn't know what town you were looking at. Good luck!

My son also goes to Dr Smith of DuPage Medical Group. He has not had surgery yet, but it will be something that I know will be discussed at our appointment in August. My son has vesicoureteral reflux and Dr. Smith was the doctor our ped. brought in when my son was hospitalized.

Hi D.,
We took our son to Dr. Hatch when he was 9 months old for the hypospadius surgery and it went wonderfully well! I was a nervous wreck (first child & first surgery) but Dr. Hatch was very gentle with him and he explained everything to us really well. We took our son back to Dr. Hatch for another surgery when he was 2, totally unrelated to the hypospadius. My son is 7 now and hasn't had any other problems since the surgery. My only complaint about the staff at the Loyola surgery center in Oakbrook was, they kinked his IV line and he wasn't getting any pain medication when he woke up so he was screaming and thrashing around and it took the staff a long time to figure out what was wrong. FYI...kids can be really upset when they wake up and can throw up in the car from being put under. I would highly recommend Dr. Hatch. hope this helps!

Hi D.,
I'm a nurse in outpatient surgery at Childrens and if you saw Dr. Cheng at children's he is excellent. Also if you want another opinion..Dr. John Houston at children's is a wonderful person and actually gives his cell phone number out to parents if they need to speak to him (esp. after surgery). Dr. Houston goes to the Children's satellite facility in Tinley Park on 159th. Hope this is helpful. C. E

HI D.,

My son had hypospadias repair with Dr. Craig Smith with the Dupage Medical Group. The surgery was a success. He provided excellent compassionate care, and I think he is a good surgeon. He answered all my questions with patience, and I had a lot of questions. I was scared to have my babay go through a surgery.

I researched him a little before we went to see him and he has actaully taught pediatric urology or something. I was impressed with his background. He is certified in pediatrics and urology. This was a comfort to me.

Also, he does hypospadias repair about once a week he told me, so I felt like becasue he does the surgery often, he would be better at it.
If we ever had to deal with hypospadias repair again, I would go back to him.

Good luck D.. There is a Dr. Anthony or Antonio S? that does surgery through children's that I have heard excellent things about, too. He has an office around westchester.

Good luck!

K.
