Seeking Reviews on Pediatric Urologist

Megan - Our son sees Dr. John T.B. Houston. He's associated with Children's Memorial and has a number of offices that he sees patients out of. Max had surgery at Children's Memorial (the main hospital) to fix a kidney issue in September. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Houston and Children's Memorial. We had to spend one night in the hospital for recovery and Dr. Houston checked on Max repeatedly. One of the nurses told us that he tracks his patients more than any doctor she's ever worked with and that he is the only doctor she knew of who sends the parents home with his personal cell phone number after surgery. It was comfort once we got home to know that if we were really worried we could reach Dr. Houston easily. He also called us repeatedly in the days following surgery to check on Max and he even stayed on the phone with me while I removed Max's catheter a few days after surgery. Dr. Houston has a website - childrenspediatricurology.com. Remember no matter who you choose to see, that if you are not comfortable with them then you shouldn't hesitate to change. Good luck!

My son sees a pediatric urologist at Loyola; his name is Dr. Hatch. I would like to get a second opinion, as I guess I am a bit at odds with some of his responses to my son's problem. I have talked to a number of other pediatric urologists residents who highly recommend the pediatric urologists at Northwestern. When I called, of course I found out that Children's Memorial Hospital is Northwestern's pediatric facitiy. I am not sure if this is relevant, but I have also just become aware of La Rabida's enuresis clinic. Good luck!

We just had a great experience with Dr. Lindgren at Children's. Yes, I think it's the best children's hospital in the area!

I put a similar post out on this site a few months back when my infant son needed to see a pediatric urologist. Many people at that time recommended Dr. Cheng at Children's Memorial. An adult urologist that my sister sees also recommended him, so we went with him. He performed surgery on my son and will be performing another one in June. We have been happy with him so far. For office visits, we have seen him at his office at Central DuPage Hospital and at an office in Northwest Community in Arlington Heights. He performed the surgery at the facility downtown.

Oh my gosh, I can't say enough good things about Children's Memorial Hospital. We've been there many many times with my daughter since she was 15 weeks old and she is now almost 2 1/2. We have seen 3 of the doctors there that are in the same practice. Dr Max Miezel, Dr Jennifer Hagerty, and Dr Lindgren. All 3 have performed surgery on my daughter and all 3 are heros in my book. Dr Hagerty and Dr Lindgren are one of the only 2 in the state that can do laproscopic surgery. My daughter had severe kidney and bladder problems and she couldn't be any better now! They really did save her life. I would also recommend NOT seeing Dr Hatch!!! We were sent to him first, and was not impressed at all with him. Honestly, I think he should have retired 10 years ago. He told us our daughter was in no rush for surgery and to wait it out. We got a 2nd opinion at Children's w/Dr Maizel and she was in surgery 3 days later. She ended up having the condition that a famous model just died from after having limbs amputated. This was at 15 weeks old, and I can't imagine what mgiht have happened if we didn't go to Children's. Also, I think the practice I'm talking about at Children's see's patients at a few different locations. Their number is 800-KIDS-DOC. Good luck!!

You don't have to go downtown to see someone from Children's. We just saw Susan Moylan who is a nurse practioner at CDH in Winfield. She works w/ Dr. Chen who we met briefly and he seemed nice. You can't go wrong w/ a Doctor from Children's.

Had a recent positive experience with pediatric urologist. Saw Dr. Lindgren (Children's Memorial Hospital) at St. Alexius on Barrington Road, but they have many qualified specialists and at various locations.

Our son was in the NICU at CDH-Children's Memorial for three months. His primary doctor was amazing. I can't speak to the doctors outside of the NICU, but if the NICU doctors are any reflection of the caliber they have, I would be totally comfortable using a CDH-Children's Memorial physician as a specialist.

My son, now almost 13 mos. old, has been seeing Dr. Bruce Lindgren, a pediatric urologist at Children's, since birth. Because my son was diagnosed in vitro with enlarged kidneys, he was whisked away moments after I gave birth to him at Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) to have testing done and to be seen by whatever pediatric urologist was available at the Children's wing of CDH, which happened to be Dr. Lindgren.

I really like Dr. Lindgren. He seems very knowledgeable and takes his time at every appointment to explain things thoroughly and to address any concerns or questions that I have. He has also been willing to accommodate my desire that he see my son and order tests on a more frequent, rather than less frequent, basis in order to immediately catch any adverse change in his condition.

Dr. Lindgren is based at Children's in Chicago, but he comes to CDH on a periodic basis (every 2 weeks?). Since you live in St. Charles, CDH would probably be more convenient for you than going to Children's in Chicago (and parking is plentiful and free).

As for Children's in general, their doctors have the highest reputation. My same son had surgery with one of them (Dr. Frank Vicari) last month, and I can't say enough good about him. Other families I know who have had their kids under the care of doctors at Children's, including for surgeries, have been very pleased as well. I don't know of a bad story yet about any doctor from Children's.
