Hi Moms!

My husband and I are new to Palo Alto and are expecting our first child in July. We're looking for a patient, knowledgable and progressive pediatrician in the Palo Alto area. We have a PPO plan so it should cover most pediatricians in the area. Any advice is apprceciated! Thank you!

So What Happened?

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for all of the great recommendations and input. We have appointments to meet Dr. Noland at Burgess Pediatrics, Dr. Barone at PAMF, and Dr. Hwang at Welch Road Pediatrics. Dr. Hallee at Menlo Clinic isn't taking new patients and Menlo Clinic doesn't do any "meet and greet" appointments which makes it really difficult to choose a doctor there! I'm sure one of the doctors will work out. Thanks so much Mamas!

Congrats and welcome to the area. My pediatrician is "right next door" to Palo Alto - in Menlo Park and is phenomenal. Dr. Julia Hallee at the Menlo Clinic. Best of luck!

I would recommend my pediatrician, Dr. Michael Taemaore-- he's on California Ave. on the far side of the train station-- he came to us highly recommended and we've been impressed by him for the past 5 years he's been our pediatrician. His number is: ###-###-####

HI S. --

I'd recommend Welch Road Pediatrics -- there are seven doctors there, they don't mind if you switch around (which is a bit unusual, most get pissy), and they are all excellent. WRP has been around FOREVER. In fact, I went there as a child and saw Dr. Harvey -- now his daughter is part of the practice (and, I'm 49 just to put it into perspective).

It's wonderful to go to a larger practice -- the doctors learn from each other, and the coverage is great. With an advice nurse, access to care 6 days a week, and always same day appointments for a sick child, you just cannot beat it with a stick.

We see Dr. Hwang (a female) for my 5 year old, and Dr. Pittman (a male) for my 15 year old son.

Good luck!

J.

I live in Palo Alto, and while I've heard there are many great pediatricians at PAMF, I take my kids to Dr. O'Malley at Camino Medical Group in Sunnyvale. She's wonderful and so are many of the other doctors that we've seen there when she has been out or after hours.

I second the favorable review of Welch Road Pediatrics. We see dr Vukicevich, and she's fabulous.

I recommend Dr. Ellen Schneider at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. She is in Family Medicine, so she is both my doctor and my baby's doctor. This was great during the pregnancy, as we rotated every other visit between my OB/GYN at PAMF and my regular doctor. Once my baby was born, Dr. Schneider came to us in the hospital for visits (even though it was the OB who delivered). It's great to have that relationship throughout the entire process and now as my child grows.

Congratulations! You might try the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. We have 2 kids and have been very happy with the care there. Our pediatrician is Dr. Kelly Look. One nice thing is that she is also a mom, so she can relate to your questions/concerns. Before we had our first child, we did several "meeting appointments" with pediaticians to get to know them. You might try that. Check out the doctor profiles on pamf.org.

Good Luck!

I recommend Dr. Julia Hallee at Menlo Medical Clinic. She is fabulous - never pushy, but made sure that you understood your options. She always asked great questions and also took the time to answer all of our questions. I took both my girls there and she was wonderful!

Soon after my second daughter was born, my husband and I moved to Switzerland. Dr. Hallee was so great making sure that my girls got their scheduled immunizations on time as well as printed a US recommended schedule for me to take with. She also gave me her personal fax and told me to fax her whenever I had any questions or needed referrals/answers for my pediatricians in Switzerland.

Dr. Hallee also has children of her own, which I believe gives Pediatricians more experience/knowledge. : )

All the best with your search!

Hi S., Congrats on the upcoming baby girl! We love our pediatrician at Palo Alto Medical Foundation - Dr. Barone. She is fantastic and so easy to talk to - about anything! I will also say that I am impressed with the level of care provided by the entire staff at Palo Alto Medical Foundation - we've had to do a few "emergency" visits with other doctors on call and all have been extremely helpful, friendly, and professional.

Try Janesta Noland at Burgess Pediatrics. She is very good if there are any special health care issues, takes alot of time with the patient (the parent and child). Here is the contact information. If you email her she will email you.

Check out who is accepting new patients at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. They used to have a workshop about picking your baby's doctor.

My pediatrician (as in when I was a kid) was there, and now my kids go there! I have had many positive experiences there. Good luck!

Hi, S., we have been patients at the Menlo Clinic for many years, but 2 of the best pediatricians there have left to go into private practice. Dr. James Cisco and Dr. Janesta Noland have started Burgess Pediatrics. I highly recommend Dr. Noland since you will be having a baby girl. Her replacement at the Menlo Clinic, Dr. Elizabeth Fowler, impressed me as being a competent doctor, but my experience is limited as my daughters are now 14 and 19 and see the doctor very infrequently. I would suggest you interview both Drs. Noland and Fowler to see who you click with. Having a pediatrician you can talk to is so important - I had a terrible one when my oldest daughter was an infant!
Best wishes,
S. A.
