I just got back from the doctor's office and they think that my 3 month old daughter may have Pyloric Stenosis. We go for a ultrasound tomorrow. Wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?

What can I do next?

A. - My son was diagnosed with this at 2 weeks old. He went to Children's for an Ultrasound and were told he probably didn't have it, too young, but it turned out he did. We were admitted that night to the hospital and he underwent surgery the next morning. The best way to know if you daughter has it is if she is projectile vomiting. If so, she probably does. The biggest concern with pyloric stenosis is dehydration and weight loss, so it is nothing to wait to decide on. The surgery is fairly common and simple. My son's surgery only took about 1/2 hour. The most frightening thing was that he was so young. However, everything was fine and the best part afterwards was no more vomiting every time he ate! He is now a happy, healthy 15 month old little boy! Good luck and let me know what you find out.

I know MANY people (mostly men) who had that surgery when they were very little (still babies). It seemed to be common practice 30 years ago (at least in my circle of friends)and all acted as though it was no big deal and it was just something that was taken care of. I know it seems scary for such a little one but it seems that there are no lasting effects and not uncommon. Good luck-I hope everything goes well!

It was suspected that my son had pyloric stenosis, but after exploratory surgery (at age 5 days) it was found that he had duodenal atresia (complete blockage of the small intestine). His surgery---and a second one at 6 months old for another reason---were both done at Children's Denver. They have fabulous staff, great support and our overall experience was good. If your daughter does have a pyloric stenosis, the surgery is simple, and recovery time is on the shorter end of things....and your daughter will be a much happier, healthier baby. Good luck and many blessings.

My son had an U/S for that. It turned out he didnt have it though. Just a really bad case of Acid Reflux. Its a small valve that in some babies keeps food from passing forcing it to come back out because it cant pass, the U/s will show if his food is flowing through like it should. Try to keep him up before hand and then hopefully he sleeps right throught it. Thats what I did, the Dr. said he couldnt think me enough. He said it was much easier with a sleeping baby. My dr. said that if he did have it a simple surgury would give pretty much be an instant fix. I know the thought of surgury on your little baby is scaring. Good Luck. I will keep you in my thoughts tomorrow.
