Second Week of Sinus Issues - 35 Weeks Pregnant

OK... I'm 35 weeks pregnant, so when this all started a week ago last Thursday, I went to the doctor and got a Zpack... To no avail this stuff has not gone away. It seems to cycle up and down and I keep blowing snot out of my nose mostly clear and sometimes yellow. I have tried saline. It makes it stop for about 30 minutes and I am back to blowing. I was coughing a lot and that seems to have gotten a little better. My ribs are so sore from it all and my teeth now hurt from all the sinus stuff. My daughter (4) and my husband started this past week as well. My daughter's settled in her ears and I got her antibiotics for that... the antibiotics cause diarrhea so she is also drinking Yakult to counter that... My husband refuses to go to the dr since the Zpack didn't solve it for me and he is self-medicating with Nyquil. Being pregnant and needing to take care of everyone, there isn't much I can take. So....

Are any of you going through this same thing? How long did it take for you to get over it? Does anyone have any suggestions for things that have worked for them to get rid of this? Homeopathic sinus relievers? ANYTHING? I am miserable!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Can't take sudafed. I used a neti pot this morning and will do it again tonight. It didn't seem to do much for me but this is from someone who wants this over NOW. :-P I will keep trying. Thank you all for your suggestions and sympathy. This really bites!

My daughter is suffering with the same problems, and is only about 10 weeks along so they don't want her to take Sudafed yet... she did get antibiotics, though... She has the added complication of Asthma, and frequently the sinus infections go to asthmatic bronchitis......

I do feel for you... can you take Sudafed/Pseudoephedrine? Have you asked the doc about that?

Same here...I was told I could take plain sudafed. I also tried Doterra's "Breathe" (essential oils)...that has helped the most. It has been driving me crazy! I think I've finally gotten it mostly kicked...but UGH. I feel for ya!

I don't know how to make it go away, but use Breathe Right Strips at night so you can sleep. I discovered them with my second pregnancy when I used to get a lot of sinus infections. They are drug free and they really work! You can find them at Target, Walmart, and probably Walgreens or CVS. Feel better soon!

I had the exact same problem , at same stage in pregnancy. Couldn't't take anything, b/c allergic to all antibiotics allowed in pregnancy. It was awful. Doc gave Nasonex, but didn't work for me. Steamy shower may help some. You may just have to suffer through. Hope you get to feeling better.

Poor thing!! Hang in there, wish you could take Sudafed, it saved me many times during my last pregnancy! I don't know how long it will last, but I am wishing the best for you. You probably know this but just in case, make sure you use purified water in your Neti pot or just boil you water before you use it. A few weeks back it was in the news that some people died from some crazy parasite in tap water that they had used in their Neti pots, totally a freak thing of course, but better safe than sorry. Feel better soon!

Get a really good probiotic. Before bed brush your teeth and drink some water. Empty a probiotic tablet in the back of your throat. Swallow what you can of the powder and go to sleep. Let the probiotics work their way up into your sinuses.
Also, avoid all sugar and refined carbs until this is cleared up.

Use a nasal rinse like Neil Med (easier than a netti pot). I had a horrible bout with sinus issues when pregnant with my 1st and it helped a ton!
