Stuffy Cold and Pregnant

Hi to all the Moms!
I have an obnoxious cold and also am newly pregnant. I see I am not supposed to take oral decongestants, and not use Afrin, either. I just can't get to sleep because I can't breathe through my nose! Any suggestions from the experienced? Its 3 am and I am trying to steam myself but that only seems to work if you are kinda stuffed up and air still moving. UGH!

What can I do next?

My doc let me use Vicks and I would put in on my nose openings and that would help along with a sinus rinse (scary at first but wonderful).

Neti Pot or Neil Med Sinus Rinse kit!!! Unstuffs very well and uses saline (make sure you get the kit so you can get extra salt packets.)

I've used Benadryl while pregnant. I just took like one pill a night for a little relief, even though I could have taken more. Also, try a Neti Pot. It's a saline sinus rinse. I love them and use them anytime I'm stuffed up or have allergies.

I always found that putting a little bit of Vapo Rub under my nose helped with the stuffiness.

Get Breathe Right Nose strips. I discovered them when I was pregnant with #2, and they are WONDERFUL! They're drug free and they work!

Call your OBGYN to see what's safe to take- there's usually something. You could also try Breathe Right strips. Pediacare Gentle Vapors Plug-ins are usually helpful too.

Hope you feel better soon!!!!

My OB said it was perfectly ok to take Sudafed, Tylenol, Tylenol Cold (not all three together, those are just options) Afrin. Those are all approved for pregnancy.

If you're not convinced, just give your doctor a call. He/she should have a standard list of the cold & pain meds approved for pregnancy, as they get this question everyday.

Good luck and feel better soon!

I took sudafed when I was pregnant. The kind that is kept behind the counter. I think they recommend that you take if after your 12 weeks, but I can't remember. Check with your doctor. A Neti pot will help too.
