Pregnant and Hit in the Stomacha

My 3 year old got a little rough today and accidentally knee'd me in the stomach. It was at the top part of the uterus. Granted my toddler didn't mean to and it wasn't extremely hard but it did hurt. I am 25 weeks pregnant and he is still kicking and still very active as usual. I am a little sore at the upper part of my stomach where I was knee'd and I have slight cramping which comes and goes but I've gotten the cramping since I found out I was pregnant due to my uterus growing. I am not bleeding. I guess I just want to be sure my baby and the placenta are ok. I know I should call my doctor but I hate to make something out of nothing. I am planning to call the obgyn tomorrow morning just to be sure everything is ok. I just wanted to hear thoughts.

I think I am just really worried because I had pre eclampsia my last pregnancy and since that has something to do with the Placenta I just don't want the baby nor I to go through that again.

Let me know your thoughts.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the responses. I am in no pain and our son is kicking like normal. I haven't called my OBGYN but I do plan to call and let them know.

Please don't say "I don't want to make something out of nothing"!

Mamas say that constantly on Mamapedia when posting with medical questions. Isn't it better to see the doctor and be told all is well than to say "I don't want to look silly; I don't want to see the doctor and be thought of as overreacting...."? Why not risk being told it's nothing -- for the sake of the baby?

This could be nothing. It could be something. My doctor ordered an ultrasound when all I did was pick up a box that was far heavier than I realized. She still wanted to check me out even though she said I likely was fine (and I was). Your doctor (if he or she is halfway decent) likely will want to check you out too. Yes, it's probably nothing. But we are not doctors here on Mamapedia. I'd at least call the doctor and ask about it.

A very good friend of mine fell flat on her stomach when she was pregnant with her first. She called her doctor and they wanted to see her. Her baby was fine!! Don't worry too much, but I think you should call your doctor. Who cares if you are making something out of nothing -- it's your baby and you want to make sure that everything is perfect!

I know it's hard to not think about...When I was pregnant with my daughter, my 6yr old son wasn't thinking and ran full force at me & jumped on me!! I was paranoid as hell!! I called my dr. and he told me not to worry, that it takes more than another child to do any harm!
If you're worried, it's just a phone call to your dr. Whenever in doubt, don't ever shun away from calling them!! It's your body and your baby!!

That baby is so protected by fluid I am sure it will be fine! when my mom was in her last trimester when she was pregnant with me a hutch fell right on her stomach and everything was fine.

It seems like it would take a very hard blow to the belly to cause harm to your baby-- harder than a toddler could kick. I was hugged very tightly by a 5th grader when I was pregnant to the point that my belly hurt. I was a little paranoid, but my coworker shared with me that she fell flat on her stomach during her pregnancy and it didn't hurt her son. Call the doctor tomorrow and put your mind at ease but I'm sure everything will be okay. : )

This exact thing happened to me! Our 3 year old son did this when I was about 25 weeks pregnant! Although I did spot a little......... I called the doc and they said there really wasn't anything to do. I could come in but all they would do would be to listen to the heartbeat..... They told me to just lay around and rest for the day. And of course, to not worry........LOL. (Like I could do that part.....)

I honestly believe that nature had mothers with toddlers in mind when it planned out pregnancy. :-) It also kept clumsiness in mind too. There's a ton of cushioning before anything reaches your placenta and the baby... that's part of what all that amniotic fluid is for. But for peace of mind a call to the OB wouldn't hurt.

When I was pregnant with my daugher, my son took a flying leap and landed right on my pregnant belly with a force that HURT. We are all fine....BUT, I did call my OBGYN to make sure. I'd say chances are everything is fine, but if you called and said "I'm sure everything is fine, but wanted to let you know this happened, and see if you have any thoughts, or in case something comes up down the line..just wanted you to know." The doc will probably say everything is fine too, but so much better to share a little info. and have it not be needed, than to not say anything and in the slight chance that something does go awry, at least your doc will have the info.....and if he/she does have any recommendations, better to know what they are now ! Don't panic...just cover your bases. Good luck - with all of it!!!

It's probably gonna be just fine but why take chances? go see your ob right away or go to the ER to have it checked out just in case.

I got hit in the stomach by a shopping cart around 18 weeks -- doc did an U/S to make me feel better -- but told me that the babies are SO cushioned in the amniotic sac that it would take a sincere beating to generally cause trouble. I was going to my appt the same afternoon it happened, so I just mentioned it at my appt. Good luck and best wishes!
