Pregnancy and Laser Hair Removal

I know, this is insane that I would even post this.

I should just not worry.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 4 months (this is our 4th cycle) and who knows, this month I "could" be pregnant. I got a groupon deal last month to do 6 laser hair removal treatments. Today, I finished 2 treatments. If I was pregnant, I haven't implanted yet, as I'm only 3 days past ovulation.

I should have just canceled the appointment, but I'm not one to believe that I should live my life on pins and needles until I find out I'm pregnant. Once I'm pregnant, I become vegan, don't drink, (I already don't smoke) and most importantly, I wouldn't get laser hair removal! I'd just end the whole thing, obviously.

But in all honesty, if I happened to get pregnant this month, would I have totally screwed something up?? I got my underarms done. Could I have a miscarriage before I even implanted??

What can I do next?

I was told by my laser hair people that underarms are not really a 'danger' area so I think you will be fine!!! Just relax!

While they say its not a danger area they don't want to do anything because there isn't any real studies on it and they don't want an lawsuit just in case.

Honestly- I think you are fine!!

I think you can feel very confident that the laser treatment didn't do any harm to your potential pregnancy. I don't have any "scientific proof" of that, I think it is just HIGHLY unlikely.
Your second question is a whole separate matter, regardless of the laser treatment. Yes -- you can have a fertilized egg that never implants in the uterus. It could be self-terminated before it passes thru the uterus, or it could just be unable to take hold and is lost during your period. Unfortunately there is not much we can do to ensure a successful potential pregnancy, most of that just happens or it doesn't -- it is just nature taking its course. Obviously I am not condoning engaging in dangerous activities when you might be pregnant. Like you, I think just behave reasonably and hope for the best.
I really hope this is "the" month for you!

I think I had laser hair removal done on my stomach when I was pregnant. It was a long time ago, so I'm not sure.

But I'm pretty sure it's not harmful and you don't have to worry about it.

When I was pregnant with my son my OB told me getting the laser was fine ( face) when I went to make the appointment with the dermatologist she refused to do it while I was pregnant.

I think laser is still too new in terms of knowing if it affects a baby or not and since we are such a sue-happy society, no one wants to take the risk.

I don't think and certainly don't know for a fact, that it would have caused any damage if you are. Like you said you would be so early in your pregnancy. Women do all kinds of things before finding out they are pregnant and the baby is born healthy and strong. I took prescription pain pills before I knew I was pregnant w/ daughter and she was fine. I stopped the minute I found out.

Good Luck!

I agree with the others, probably nothing to worry about, but they don't like to do it as a precaution.

I will say that I was in a similar situation, I had only done 2 treatments and got pregnant. The place I went to said we could resume my treatments after the pregnancy. Talk to your place and make sure there is no expiration on your treatment plan.

Good luck!

I'm not sure whether it's safe or not.
When I had my legs done years ago, I itched for a day or so.
The dead hair follicles caused a mild allergy response and a low dose of Benedryl took care of it.
I guess you have to think of the surface area you are dealing with and how many hair follicles will die and what your bodys response to all that might be and then think of the affect of that response on a tiny single cell fertilized egg and whether it might affect whether implantation might be affected by it.
Under your arms is a smaller area than the legs.
But know one knows whether any or a little or a lot could be harmful.
When dealing with an unknown, they recommend erring on the side of caution.
It might be wise to put off the treatments till after the baby comes.
Or not try to conceive until you are finished with your treatments.
