Painful Ovulation

I've been on birth control (YAZ) for about two years. I recently went off and had major uterine pain, and extremely painful ovulations the last few months since stopping the YAZ. I also have shoulder pain during ovulation and period time. I've had an internal ultrasound and they didn't find anything but a small cyst which they said was normal due to my cycle. Has anyone else ever had these problems?

So What Happened?

Well, I think the YAZ birth control I was on really messed with my body. After several months of getting off from that birth control I am almost back to normal. Each month I have less and less pain. I do notice more pain when I walk a lot during ovulation time, but most of the time there is no pain.

I was on b.c. pills on and off for many, many years due to menustrual problems. When I go off of them, it does take my body a good 6 months to adjust, and hormonally, anything goes in that time period; cysts, pain, light period, heavy ones, etc. But it does balance out. I would give it a few more months, and then be aggressive about seeking treatment. If you went off the B.C. because you wanted to get pregnant, they best thing maybe to ride it out. If you are thinking about getting pregnant, I would talk to your dr. about putting you on pregnancy vitamins, it could help a little. When we are feeling punk due to hormonal issues, nutrition is one of the last thigns I thinka bout,so vitamins are a good safeguard. I am done having children, so I have Mirena IUD now, with great results.

Mine sounds exactly like Adonna's but I was told when I was about 14 that it was painful ovulation which he said is somewhat common. I do not experience any pain or discomfort during my period, though so I will take the 1/2 day of pain.

Just wanted to throw out endometriosis, as no one has mentioned it yet. Did your OB/GYN talk to you about endometriosis possibly causing the pain?

I am having that exact issue, cyst included. My issues started in December, about 3 months after I had my second child. I was told that it was the cyst bursting that caused the pain. I was given pain medication and told that if it happened every month and was too painful, they would do something to stop my ovulating? I don't know if I really want them messing with my hormones that much? My hormones are out of wack as it is! Let me know if you hear anything different! Good luck and God Bless!

Hi C.,
I have had the same issue for years. That is how I got pregnant with both of my wonderful children. I have good news. The pain that you are experiencing, if in fact it is like mine, is called Middleschmertz, and is nothing to worry about. Sounds funny, I know. My doctor told me what it was. If you google Middleschmertz you will be able to see if you believe that this is what you are experiencing. At the very least, it will give you something to ask your doctor about. Good Luck!

I have ovulation pain every month. My doctor said I don't know when I'm ovulating but I KNOW! I mean, it's the same time every month, so it's something. I get a dull pain (same side each time?) and sometimes I end up doubled over in pain the more I walk! This lasts about half the day, a good portion of it anyway. This has beeen since I was in High School. No explanation has been given to me but there are some months that I don't notice it as much and either it's from the other side or I'm healthier (?) I guess it seems to be less if I'm on top on my nutrition etc. I do know that when I came off from birth control my emotions were out of control! I will never go on it again. Now that I'm over 30 my hormones are definetly noticable, and not so fun anymore. My poor kids. :)

I have had painful ovulation for years. I had a partial hysterectomy (no uterus) and I still feel it. I just take motrin and deal.

There are countless times that birth control helps ease symptoms of ovulation/periods/pms. For me, symptoms have always been different every few years...it's almost a cycle that my cycle goes thru! Anyway, there is a good chance that your bc may have been keeping severe symptoms at bay, and going off of it has made them more noticeable. It's easy to tell when your ovulating...at least I have always known.

Continue to tell your doc, perhaps hormone therapy (bc) is the only way to help your symptoms right now.

I, too, have Middleschmertz. Hubby and I laugh about the name. He has this thing with names. He laughs at Frankenmuth, too. Anyways, I am on a prescription medicine because of the awful pain. I take it 2 times a day. And if I forget, especially at the right time each month, I feel it. But with the medicine, I am fine generally. You may want to ask your doctor about it.
