Ovarian Cysts Issues

Hey ladies,

In the past 4 months I have has 2 ovarian cysts (that I know of) that has caused horrible pain. I know that most women get them but you never notice them and they go away without any pain. I have gone in both times because I was in pain for a few days (could not sit, stnd, walk, lay down without being in pain). Both times the doc said wait it out, and the first cyst went away along with the pain. The second cyst I still have but it is 'draining'slowly (like a pin hole in a ballon, I just hade to wait and get a check up in a month to make sure it has gone down in size or disappeared. Here is the question part: The doc said that going ob birth control could help, I was on but stpped due to bad headaches and nausea/vomiting. My cysts have/are very painful and reading up on them there does not seem to be a lot I can do about... have anyone else been in a similar situation and if so if you are/were on birth control that seemed to help what birht control was it?

Thanks!
K.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the support/ideas... I have been doing some research and found nothing on what foods to or not to eat (besides people just guessing) but did find a combo of vitamins that could help as well as herbs (but can only take the herbs if not on BC)... I did find that YAZ could really help so I am going to talk to the doc about starting that (if possible). I am hesitant to go the chiropractor route because I have had bad experiences with them as well as some of my relatives (once you start going you can't stop because you will be in worse pain then before... that is no solution, it is not a long term fix, and cost way too much). Thanks again!

I too have cysts and have had them most of my life. BC did not help for me until I went on tricyclic. But then after my 2nd child was born that did not help much either. Good luck. It really is a trial and error as to what kinds work and what do not.

I had issues with painful ovarian cysts in my early 20's and then did not have trouble with them again until last fall. Like you have been told to wait it out. They are very painful. In fact, I was using lamaze breathing methods to get through the pain!

This may sound silly, but my friend who is a nutritionist, said that there are certain foods that cause you to produce more of the hormones that cause cysts, fibroids, etc. You may want to research that. I cannot take BC pills. They make me sick, crabby, gain wait, etc., so that isn't an option for me. The only other thing I have found that helps is to take 2 ibuprofen and a very hot bath.

I hope you find something that helps you. Isn't it fun being a woman? :)

I don't want to alarm you, but have you talked to the Dr. about the possibility of endometriosis?
If you go to www.endocenter.org there is tons of information and resources to track symptoms and topics to discuss with your Dr.
I was diagnosed 5 years ago when I developed a cyst and it did not go away and had a laparoscopic procedure to remove it. I have had one since, but the continuous BC has kept them at bay. I've been on a couple different pills and now have a Mirena IUD.
Good Luck!

K.,
I know you've already had a ton of replies but I wanted you to know you're not alone. About 2 months ago I started having pain when my bladder was full, when I had sex or just whenever - went through all the waiting through a cycle and then the fun ultrasounds to show I had cysts. They put me on Naproxen for pain (doesn't help but I take tylenol in between to help) -- and I started the pill Sunday. I have a family history & all the women who tried the pill ended up having the laproscopy surgery & had full or partial hysterectomies. I'm going for the exploratory surgery if after next month the pill isn't helping. Be firm with your doctor - they have protocol & like to wait but there's no need for you to be in such pain! It's horrible & makes life hard to live.

Hello K.:

I am sorry to hear that your in pain. Before I had my first son they removed my cyst on my left ovary. They went in my belly button and a incision above my belly button and removed it. That was 17 years ago and now I have one on my right ovary. The only thing i can use to get rid of the pain is a birth control called YAZ. I hope this helps you. Since I have used YAZ I have no pain at all.

Hope you will feel better.
K.

K.,

I started getting a horrible pain on my right side 2 yrs ago. I went in and found out I had a cyst. The doctor said the only way to get rid of the pain was to go on birth control so that I wouldn't ovulate. Well I couldn't as we were trying to get pregnant. So I suffered with the pain. It seemed to be only a horrible pain every other month, since when you ovulate each side takes turns.
My daughter is going to be 6 months old this week and I just started back on birth control this month, because my lovey pain came back. I am hoping that it will help me. There are soooo many different birth control pills out there for you to try. Just try talking with your doctor and have them try different ones until you find one that works good with you.

Good Luck!!

Hi K.
If you do not want to go on BC I would find a chiropractor that deals with womens issues. I have had MANY cysts and had to have them surgicaly removed until I mentioned to my chiropractor that I had another one that they were going to remove. She did some adjusting to my belly and the pain and cyst went away. I have not gotten another cyst since then. Good luck I am so sorry you have to go through that :)T.

I was on birth control pills and the depo shot most of my teens-early mid 20's and never had any problems.

I went off the Depo and a few months later I had a cyst and it burst and ended up in the E.R. I was too told to go on birthcontrol. Not sure if that works as I got pregnant while taking my first round of birthcontrol.

I would recommend if it works for you going on the Depo I had really really good luck and never any problems.
