Hello Everyone,
This is kind of weird for me to do, but I am new to the Virginia Beach area and I do not know anyone. My husband is in the Navy so he has met people, where I am a stay at home mother so I do not get to get out to meet people. I love my son to pieces but sometimes it would be nice to have other people to talk to.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone you were all so helpful. I have joined a couple groups for stay at home mothers. Maybe some of you are in these groups and we will get to meet!

Wow we have a lot in common. I live in VA Beach and I've never had to search for other moms like me either. But I've also never been a stay at home mom:) Right me sometime and let me know a little about you and ask me me anything you'd like. I've lived here for almost a year but don't know to many people either.

Hi A.,

I completely understand where you are coming from. I too and a SAHM and my husband is in the Navy. My first suggestion is to find a church and become a part of it. That has been my saving grace. I get adult conversation during Bible study and my children are playing with other kids. This is not only good for the soul, but for emotional support and friendships. I now also have a few people I can trust to watch my children so I can get a haircut or go to the dr.
Another suggestion is sign your son up for some classes. The recreation center may have some age appropriate classes and I know there is a great Mommy and Me gymnastics class at Gymstrada for that age group.
The key is to get out of the house, put yourself in the community and meet people. Encourage your husband to invite over co-workers and their families for dinner or games. If you don't find an outlet you will go crazy! I wish you the best!

Go to www.meetup.com and join a playgroup. Im on the penninsula and have joined 2 groups up here and love them both. Ive been a member for 2yrs now and have even made a couple of close friends. They are the ONLY people I know here. My first 2yrs here my child was too old for the playgroups so I really didnt have Any friends and was very isolated. Now that Ive had my 2 toddlers I attend playgroups a couple times a week and am so glad to have a life now. Let me know how it goes.

If you go to meetup.com they have lots of meetup groups for moms. I belong to the Mocha Mommies ( even though I don't like coffee ) and they are a wonderful and welcoming group of ladies. Lots of kids of all ages. I also belong to Christian Moms on the go. It is a new group but I know a lot of the ladies. Good luck and I look forward to meeting you. Both groups have a large military population and we have meetings all over the area.

Hi A., welcome to Virginia. Well from my experience, yes it is very lonely being a Navy wife. When we first moved here, we were lucky because another Navy family with a baby moved in next door shortly after we did. My son and my neighbor's son are still best buddies even though we bought a house and are no longer next door neighbors. There are a lot of play areas at the local malls and you can meet other moms on Cafe Mom website or Stroller Strides, maybe once your husband is settled in at work, he should get you acquainted with the wives of his coworkers. Good luck.
