Hello. I am currently helping my older brother raise his three children due to a recent seperation in his marriage. These children are now teenagers. The youngest, a 14 year old girl, is truly desiring a wonderful 15th birthday in the midst of all her troubles in her home. I want to make it unforgettable. As the substitute mother, so to speak, I know she looks to me, to make something happen. Does anybody have any suggestions for such an event. I would greatly appreciate the advice. Grateful, -R.

awww this brings back memories of my quincenera 8 years ago and it was something i'll never forget and i had a blast! i remember the changing of my shoe from a regular flat to a high heel by my dad that was emotional and you know in weddings they throw the garter, well we threw like a play doll and whoever got the doll would get like a porcelain doll that was fun. let's see for the recuerdos we engraved some wine glasses with my name and birthday very inexpensive. and of course the one thing that made it a blast was having a great dj so we could dance all night with friends and family! i hope yours turns out great and your niece has a great time!

lots of love,

Hi R.,

Well I really don't know anything about throwing quinceaneras, as I haven't had to do one yet. I don't know what your timing is on everything, but every year at the fairgrounds they have a Bridal and Quinceanera show. You might want to check into when they are having that. I know they have everything that you could possibly need for that. I would also start looking into churches to see who would be available to do one.

Good Luck,
S. C.

Not sure about my advice here. But I did do a Quincianera Party for my two step daughters. The aunts did not help except to make some food. So I want to applaud your desires.
I took them to a wedding shop and they got two used wedding dressed about $50 each. I went to a Mexican store in Michigan and got them their tiara's. We went to a store called Dots (not sure that they have one around here) and all the girls got the same dress, butterfly motif. The boys were told to were black suits. We had the event in one place. We did not have the ceremony in a church and then move to the reception hall. We had every thing at a dance hall. We decorated with angels etc. I went to Tuesday Morning (in Toledo), there is one near CiCi's off Juan Tabo and got decorations. We catered the event as well. Which I would not suggest doing. We had a DJ, but screen the music first there was a song that I had to stop so becareful. The first song that was played that the girls danced to (with father and grand father) was Butterfly kisses.
Oh and I had each girl decorate their present boxes themselves, they had a quick doing it.
And I put together a picture album for each, I got that at the Mexican store as well.
Good luck!

hwo elaborate is this event and what is your budget. for one, i think that the true meaning of the quinceanera is lost to young women these days in the midst of trying to outdo their friends. it si of utmost importance that she knows the meaning of the celebration not just an excuse to have a party. That it si of her transformation form a child to a young woman and the responsibilites that go with that. maybe a visit to your pastor or priest would help. i dont have daughters but i have neices and have been to many quinceaneras. a dress is important andyou can probalby find someone to make one. i have made several and it sure saves a lot and it will be one of a kind. In our community a girl chooses godparents and each of them provide a certain part of the party such as on pays for the food, one for the cake, one for the music etc. these padrinos should be contaced as soon as possible and they need to let you know of their finances so that you can budget. pajama parties to make party favors and decorations are always a lot of fun. let me know if you need more ideas. oh and odnt forget the baby doll that she will give to her dad when he places the heeled shoes on her feet before they dance the first song. this signifies that hse is giving up her childhood and transforming into a youn lady (the heels). my niece wore ballerina flats utnil her daddy took them off and put heels on.

Hi There!

I myself have two kids, a 10 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. Since my daughter is still in elementary school she might be a bit young for what I am going to recommend to you. I am a Professional Makeup Artist and I do Adult & Youth Makeup Parties. The preteen girls as well as the teenagers (and the moms of course) LOVE these as I teach the girls how to apply makeup responsibly and respectably.I started this when I became more aware (due to my own daughter of course) of the interest the young girls have in cosmetics but their application skills were CRAZY and way off. For your daughters party, all the girls would have an amazing and fun time, I also suggest going with someone who DOES NOT sell makeup as that way you would know they are doing it for the art and not to make a buck. Oh, and digital pics are amazing, I do before and afters and also offer pics with the makeup party itself at no additional charge. Moms, you dont even need a professional, just get a bunch of girls together, add the makeup and have lotsa fun !!
