Missing Periods After Major Surgery???

Help! I recently had back surgery in February. My last period ended the day before my sugery and I haven't had one since. My husband and I have had intercourse, actually the morning of my surgery (one last hoo-rah as he put it!) and then we started again a week and a half after my surgery. I have had negative pregnancy tests and am holding off going to the doctor, wondering if someone has had this same problem? I just ordered some testing strips online that quote to have a higher testing value than store brands, but didn't know if someone out there has had this same problem after a surgery? I am all recovered from my surgery now and am ready to have another baby, but hate that I do not have any straight answers!

What can I do next?

I haven't had surgry but some times stress had you miss a period. Pain and worry about if the surgry will be a success could be the case!!! Good luck to you.

Dear S.,
I thought I was the only one who had back surgery!! I had mine in December, actually the 22nd! I was under so much stress that I didn't realize I missed a period until February when I went to write down the date I found I had never had one in January. If you are trying for baby #2 I hope you are well on your way! If you are not pregnant, it's probably due to the stress of the surgery-even if you didn't feel stressed-the medication, anesthesia, doctor visits, hospital stay, blah, blah, blah, takes it's toll on us. I'm glad you are healthy now, I'm still dealing with pain and not able to move well. Good Luck and relax!! You'll have your answer soon!

I had gallbladder surgery I didn't miss a period that I remember. But I was ready to get prego after surgery. All the docs said that I should wait 6 months before getting pregnant due to the anaesthesia. It is not completely out of your system for 6 months so for the safety of the baby it would be best to wait. Just thought I would let you know maybe you could double check with your docs to see if its ok. Good luck with everything

Remember major surgery messes with all apects of your body, not just the location that was treated. I had surgery last August and it took a few months before I got back on a regualr cycle. If you are really worried then you should call your gyn. I just think your body is taking time to heal.

My experience has been that sometimes a traumatic event can mess up the normal pattern of the body. It seems to concentrate on the vital things and the non essential things can be on hold. I was in a bad car accident and I didnt have a period for 3 months. Thinks its part of healing. I am not a health care professional that is just my experience.

Good Luck
