First let me start off by saying that I am not one of those people who is constantly saying "I'm pregnant". Now, with that said, I am having surgery tomorrow (monday) to have my gallbladder removed. When I went in last friday for my pre-op I explained to them that I was 6 days late, and that I wanted them to run a pregnancy test with my blood work. They did and it came back negative. They said that they would do a urine test monday before my chest x-rays, just to make sure. I'm just worried that I'm not that far along and it's just not showing up. my mother had the same problem when she was pregnant with me. I'm now 8 days late, I've been having nosebleeds (which can be a sign of pregnancy), my breasts are tender, and i constantly feel exhausted. I FEEL pregnant. I'm just wondering what other moms would do in this situation.
Thanks everyone! I postponed the surgery... I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm going to give it a week and test again. Then reschedule!
Bach like all Army Hosp. uses a very high standard Hcg count in their blood test...they can be false neg. early I would wait it out.
Your feelings of "being pregnant" could very well be brought on because you are not sure about this surgery, and the late cycle could be due to stress.
The body and mind can do funny things to us when we are subconciously scared. Try not to sweat it.
And as others have said, the surgery can be done successfully without any harm to a baby, if indeed you are pregnant.

I'm kind of in the same place. I am 2 and a half months late and my breast are tender and have been the last mouth. Now i can not keep anything down. I have gain alot amount of weight. I have done blood and urine test and they all came back say i'm not. I had a friend of mine take all kinds of test and they were saying she wasn't it till she was 10 weeks along. So in time will tell
I would postpone the surgery for at least a week. I took a PG test actually 3 of them and they all said I wasn't PG (they were negative) BUT I went and got the blood test and I WAS pg!
I ended up losing that baby as my levels weren't high enough thus the negative urine tests) One week postponemnet of the surgery isn't going to make a difference in the way you feel regarding your gallbladder (I had mine removed too) but it may make a difference regarding a possible pg.
My sister in law had her gallbladder removed while she was about 7 months pregnant. She and the baby both did fine. I know the first trimester is a little more fragile. As previous posts have suggested I would insist on another blood test snd speak directly with the surgeon about your concerns.
If it's possible, I would postpone the surgery. I felt pregnant with my second child and took 3 different tests over a 10 day period. The first two showed neg and the third one showed positive (I was late and having all the other signs too). But it took almost two weeks of testing just to make sure. If you feel strongly about perhaps being pg I'd wait to make sure.
I would definitely get another blood test a day or so before the surgery and talk to your Dr. I think that if the 2nd test was is still negative I would chalk it up to anxiety. Breathe you can always ask the Dr. (right now) to reschedule the operation for a week or two. Good luck and try to get some rest.
Actually it depends why are you getting the gallbladder out? If your not that far pregnant the surgery shouldn't harm things. I have had a surgery done on my overies when preg and my son is healthy. good luck
I would make the decision based on how imperative it is that you get your gallbladder removed on that date. If it can wait a few weeks, I would wait a few weeks. Sometimes the hcG levels are not high enough in the beginning to be detected by pregnancy tests. If you really feel like you're pregnant, then it would be best to wait... (I would postpone the x-rays as well). It could even be that you are pregnant, but, the hcG levels aren't high enough and you may end up miscarrying without really even knowing if you were really pregnant. I think it's better to be safe than sorry, though. But, you'll want to weigh the pro's/con's of postponing the surgery.
First of all, insist on another blood pregnancy test. They should be doing it again rather than a urine. Second, ask the doctor what the complications could be with being pregnant and having the surgery. As the previous lady said, it may be little to no harm at this point. Although, the gall bladder is in the abdomen it's located in the upper right quadrant, quite a distance away from a growing uterus....??? May be no harm. But asking is always best and ask the surgeon, not the nurse...yes i'm a nurse but the surgeon is the one to be most concerned if something should happen. Cover your bases and don't let them blow you off on the blood test...it's just a little more expensive but mention to them it would cost more if they harmed your unborn child!!! IF it were me, and I could delay the Gall Bladder Surgery, I would until I was able to see my OB. Obviously, I am not a medical professional, so you really need to consult with all of your health care providers.

Go buy one of those new pregnancy tests that can tell you as soon as your missed period. Not sure of the name of it but you will see it on the label. Also, make your concerns aware to the doctor.
I know it's too late, but I just saw your post. I wanted to share my story with you. I had 3 blood tests, 6 at home pregnancy tests, and 3 urine tests from the doctor... they ALL came out negative until I was 5.5 months pregnant. I'm not sure why, but it happens. I hope everything turned out fine! (:

I agree, the test can be wrong only because it may be too early to tell. You have a few of the signs, tender breast can be from your body preparing for a pregnancy, or it can be tender because you are late, and the period may be heavy. But if not having a period soon, i would have them do a test to rule out ovarian cyst~which can display many of the signs of pregnancy. If you are having no pain, by all means do another test. If you've never been pregnant, there's really no way to know if you 'feel' pregnant. It may just be wishful thinking. I'd wager, though, that it has more to do with your surgery. Any traumatic event can delay or advance your period by several days. The hormonal changes probably mean that you 'should' be having your period, but the stress of having surgery has caused the delay. I could be wrong, but this is what I'd surmise.
If you have an ob, call them and ask about the surgery. Meds the first 3 months of development are not a good idea, though I know that things are done and babies turn out ok. Still, ask. It sure sounds like you are to me. Remember, people do the tests, so there is that factor involved. You are very early.
