I am currently around 16 weeks pregnant with my first, and I am also pretty new to the area and don't know many other people. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for groups that would be good to meet and spend time with other moms in the area, both now and after the baby is born. Thanks!

There is a Jenkintown MOMS Club that just formed. They meet the 2nd Thursday of every month in the morning, and there are activities planned for the moms and kids each month. You can e-mail me directly for more information: ____@____.com.

I do not know if you plan to go back to work or not, but you can check out www.MOMSClub.org MOMS Club is for Stay- at-home and part-time working Moms. They offer playgroups, MOMS Night Out, etc. There are local chapters all around the state and country. The group even has international branches! You can check out the main website for a chapter that may be located close to you and for more info. Good luck and best wishes with your new baby-to-be! And just for the FYI, I belong to a local chapter in my area and we have a Mom who has not yet had her baby and is due in Feb who just joined our group...so you may even be able to join before you have the baby if you are interested.

Hi J. and Congratulations!!

I started going to the mall to work out with a mom's group called one fit mamma. Visit their website at onefitmama.com - the owner's name is Tricia and she's very nice. You can attend the first visit free and after that's it 15$ a class and there's discounts if you buy 6, 12 or a month visit pass.

A lot of the moms have groups outside the fitness club including playgroups and babysign.

I can only attend on weekends now that I'm back to work.

Let me know if/when you want to check it out.

Hi J.,

Some ideas for moms groups are: the MOMS Club, momsclub.org to find your local chapter; MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers)(mops.org); prenatal & postpartum exercise classes (like Moxie Moms, Srtoller Strides, One Fit Mama, etc); postings at children's consignnment/thrift stores or local libraries & churches; meetup.com & other parenting websites; places like the breasefeeding resource center in glenside or the maternal wellness center in mount airy (free classes & support groups); local publications like Curious Parents, local community calendar in the paper, & websites (phillyfunsaver.com, etc).
Hope these help -- if I think of more I will let you know...take care!

I live in the Cheltenham village area right off of rt 73 by Jeans hospital. I am a mom of 2 (working on hubbie for #3!), my kids are older 6 & 8 but we moved here right after our first child was born. We have been here about 7 years now and I found it hard to meet new people around here. Seems so many moms work or grew up here and already have a set group of friends! But hang in there! There is a little gym on 611 that has some good classes, and the YMCA has some too. I found once I got my kids involved in things I got to meet more moms. Any questions feel free to email me. Welcome to the area!

Hi J.! Welcome to the area and congratulations on your pregnancy! May is a beautiful month for babies! :) My hubby and my sister were both born then. I am in Philadelphia so I'm not quite sure about mom's groups in your area. However, if you are planning on breastfeeding, La Leche League meetings would be a great place to meet other moms. At our local group, there is usually at least one pregnant mom who is there to learn more or meet other moms with little ones.
Blessings,
B.
