Hoodia. It's an acculimative affect so you'll feel it working after a couple of days. I take it in the mid afternoon to stop evening over-eating and snacking. I also double the dose that it suggests...

WATER! When you are hungry during the day and want a snack, have a full 8-12oz glass of water. Then if you are still hungry (after about 15-20 minutes) have a light snack of carrot sticks or celery or some other fresh vegetable (or maybe a fruit). Also, when you sit down to eat a meal, start out with a full glass of water (8-12 oz) and put on your plate the amount you want to eat (good portion sizes, not how much your stomach thinks you want to eat) then when you are done, if you are still hungry, follow it up with water. Lots of vegetables are good. They fill you up and have lots of fiber and not a lot of calories. Fruits are good too, but they have a few more calories than vegetables.

Instead of eating 3 big meals a day, try this: AM Breakfast (1/2 grapefruit + 1 scrambled egg + toast or oatmeal w/ fruit), @10 morning snack (cup of yogurt, apple slices or power bar), noonish (Lunch - turkey sandwich or ?) 3ish, afternoon snack (see AM snack), Dinner (?)
9ish PM snack. Eat smaller portions during the day. This is what Bill Phillips recommends (he has a cookbook: Eating Right that has meal ideas etc for each meal including snacks. I've lost 10 pounds doing this and continue to lose weight.
In additon to eating Healthy, make sure you excercise & drink plenty of water.

In case you haven't heard of adaptogens, they are a category of herbs that help the body deal with stress, restore balance, and support normal metabolic processes. (A lot has been discussed recently about adaptogens, even Oz on Oprah). Often times stress causes us to overeat as well as produce excess cortisol (causes the body to store fat). Adaptogens support weight management by regulating blood sugar, insulin metabolism, and cortisol levels; aid in digestion; and increase energy. In fact, adaptogens have the ability to shift the body's metabolism to a greater use of fat for energy.

To learn more about fast acting adaptogen sprays (Slim is wonderful for cravings and weight control) and watch "The Story of Adaptogens Documentary" 10 minute video, go to VitalHealth.TunguskaMist.com

You'll have more energy and endurance to work out with adaptogens. Are you weight training? Lean muscle mass will help speed up your metabolism, thus you'll burn more calories. Avoid fast food, processed foods, and especially all types of soft drinks, if you are not already. Eating 5-6 small healthy meals throughout the day, while drinking plenty of water helps keep your engine burning!

2 great books that I recommend are: Living Lean, by Larry North and Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief by Winston and Maimes.

I lost 40 pounds last year and here's what I did to keep from snacking:

1. Drink more water. Usually the "hunger" signal you think you're receiving is actually a "thirst" signal because your body is dehydrated. If water is getting boring, get crystal light or make iced tea (unsweet, of course) to add a little variety.
2. Take a short 10-15 minute walk. Instead of walking to the kitchen or work break room, do a few laps around the house, office building or neighborhood (if the weather is nice) or put on some music you love and dance/sing your way around the house. That always keeps me from snacking - my brain shifts out of EAT mode.
3. If there are foods you just can't avoid if you know they are there - DON'T BUY THEM! Find healthier alternatives instead. I can't control myself around french fries, so I don't even visit a restaurant that serves them because I know I can't avoid them.
4. Portion control - if you bring home things in a large bag, like chips or cookies or even chocolate candies, get a food scale, measure out an appropriate portion and put them in ziploc baggies so you eat just a serving at a time and not more. You can even label them with the day of the week so you don't eat more than one bag a day. (I think this year I might just buy one of those Christmas countdown things and use it all year round to portion out my chocolate candies - like kisses - that I can't do without)
5. Journal what you eat. Keep a small notebook with you or a wipe-off board on your fridge (that's what I do) and every time you eat something, write it down. Eventually, you'll look at your list and realize that you've had more than you thought - that's enough to curb any snack attack.
6. Brush your teeth. Snacking with a minty mouth is never a good idea (yuck) and you'll get the added advantage of having super clean teeth for your next dental check-up.
7. If you have a coworker who is always bringing doughnuts or bagels or Starbucks, send them an email and ask them not to include you when they bring in goodies. Most people will appreciate knowing that although you appreciate their goodies, you're trying to be good and don't want to waste their money on something that won't get eaten.

My most recent snack-ender is Invisalign invisible braces. I needed them anyway to straighten my teeth, but an added advantage is it keeps me from snacking because I have to brush my teeth after every meal/snack. Of course, that's an expense and temporary anti-snacking fix.

Drink your water regularly throughout the day, eat soups (broth based) and snack on protien and/or fiber rich foods (like low fat cheeses, nuts, and apples)!

You are using so many calories through working out, you might be at a point where you actually need to up your calories (with healthy calories) in order to still loose weight.

M.,
I am a parent of a six year old and have been pretty ill so I found this juice with Acai Berry in it and have been drinking it for a while and it is helping me I have lost about four pounds so far but I love to snack I snack all the time and now that I am drinking the Acai berry juice which is all natural. I don't snack any more and feel alot better because the juice has 19 fruits and you are getting your daily intake on fruits and vegetables in two ounce twice daily. I was skeptical but my friend was skeptical also and she started to drink it and drinks it everyday and feels better than ever. You could get the juice from me or you can purchase other items at the health food store that have the acia berry in it. Oprah W. and Rachel Ray are using the Acai berry to loose weight. The Acai berry is in the rainforest of the amazon it is full of antioxidants, phytonutrients, amino acids, and vitamins it is said to give strength and vitality but it helps you get your daily dose of nutrients that you need and this helps get rid of the free radicals in your body. Just thought I would drop in and let you know that would be the healthiest way to stop snacking. I also saw this show a long time ago that you can use your mind to control your eating habits by thinking of something that you love like maybe chocolate and then think of all the things that are horrible on the chocolate like cock roaches, spitting on it or whatever you think that would be horrible to your favorite food the guy said you have to tap under your eye four times and then your collar bone and then the back of your palm think of yucky things to your favorite food. then go to the right side of your body and do the taping motion and think of things that are making you happy in life whatever that maybe and it makes you feel ultimate nirvana and well it sounds crazy but it works and your cravings go away. I hope this helps you. Good Luck and take care

Good first response, I agree to add in more healthy snacks with low calories to keep the furnace going. I would also add in some more magnesium. It has worked wonders on my cravings for sweets. I still have them some but don't seem to be as fulfilled when I have eaten them and don't seem to want much after the first bite or two. Although I still want something, I usually drink some water and eat an apple and wait the rest of it out. So after a bite or two I am done of my forbidden treat. Which has helped tremendously. I get my magnesium at the health food store and take 400mg twice daily.
Good luck,
L.

I understand. When you crave chocolate you just can't munch on a carrot stick. I keep mini candy bars, kisses, etc... Little bags of baked chips etc... That helps me. If i want sweet i eat one. If i want salty i eat a few chips. I seem to do so much better when i don't forbid myself from the eveil foods. That is just to harse for me. Good luck!

What I've found that works is eating on a tight schedule. Be sure to eat balanced....meat, starch, fruit, veggie and I promise you won't feel hungry. Drink your water and when you feel the need to munch on something treat yourself to a flavored diet drink like crystal light or diet soda (in moderation) You can get the weight off, and remember that the slower it comes off the harder it will be to come back. Good luck!

This is what I was told by a trainer. Once you start burning calories through exercise your body becomes like a furnace. Think of fire. You need to keep adding fuel to keep it going...throw on another log. If you don't keep adding wood, the fire will burn out; if you steadily tend to it, it will keep burning strong. That is why you tend to overeat---your body is burning and you are not properly adding fuel so instead you douse it with gasoline! What kind of food are you eating? Try switching your snacks to fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep your snacks to under 100 calories. Sugar free jello and pudding is great, as is yogurt. Zone protein bars are actually very good and you can buy them in small snack size. (The carmel one actually reminds me of Snickers.) Also don't forget to start your morning off with a good breakfast so you don't start with a deficit.

I worked out for years without really seeing a huge change in my weight because I never changed my eating habits. When I finally did I dropped two pants sizes in three months.

One of the first things they teach us in Weight Watchers is to determine what our "triggers" are. Figure out WHY you get the munchies. Boredom, Suggestive, Isolation, Social,Anger, Sadness... there are many things that trigger our urge to eat. Once you figure out the "trigger" then you can learn to work around it either by totally avoiding it (not recommended) or by learning other ways to deal with it.

Food is our "drug", we cannot just STOP eating therefore we must learn how to DEAL with it.

Years ago a neighbor mentioned that she thought carbohydrates were as addictive as cigarettes. We laughed about it but years later my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. During the education process we learned how carbs turn to sugar in your body. With what we learned I felt it would be good for the whole family and not just my husband to cut back on carbs and cut out the bad carbs. What we learned is that we ALL felt better and lost weight. The effects of the carbs you eat peak in your system about two hours after you eat. Your blood sugar is at it's peak. Then it drops - for a person with diabetes, this is serious - for those without, it leaves you feeling hungry or a false feeling of hunger. If you eat another carbohydrate, the same thing will happen two hours later. Educate yourself - it will benefit your whole family and save your girls from being overweight. It will start a whole new lifestyle for the generations to come! I wish I knew this when my girls were growing up. Space out your meals and snacks so you are eating something every few hours so your body does not go into that major drop. Keeping your blood sugar at a steady rate avoids those bouts of hunger. Remember - a snack is not the same thing as a meal! Have one carb free or carb friendly snack between meals. Try it for a week and I guarantee you will see a difference and feel a whole lot better. The Southbeach diet and the Duke University Diets provide lots of information to help you make healthy choices.

Congratulations on your daughter! I found that removing any of the "temptation foods" from my grocery list and pantry really helped. Replace all "snacky" foods with fruits or vegetables. Sliced red, yellow, and orange bell peppers are very crunchy and sweet. You will find that they are actually extremely refreshing too. Almonds left in a dish on the counter next to the refrigerator. It is a re-training of the mind just as much as it is losing weight. Good luck!!!
