Have You Had an Endometrial Ablation??

Hello, I had the ablation done in 2004 and it worked good for about 6 months and my dr told me that its NOT guaranteed to work but i took the chance and did it. In Feruary of this year I had the Laproscopic Hysterectomy (only my uterus was removed), I was down for about 5 days and the recovery wasn't bad at all. In my opinion I would just go for the hysterectomy so you aren't haveing any more problems in the future. I wasted $6000.00 on the ablation and then turned around and paid $11,000.00 for the hysterectomy,(no insurance) If i had known I would have just done the hyst in the first place. I've had both. I would steer you to go down the ablation path first. I think I'm an exception to the rule. The ablation didn't work for me at all. But, I was having issues with bleeding 3 weeks out of every month...so our issue is a bit different. If the ablation works for you that, that's great. If not, you can looks into other avenues of treatment. That's my 2 cents worth, anyway. The recovery from the abalation was super easy, just rest that day.

I was having horrible cramps and done with having kids. I was having periods that were 2-3 weeks long and becoming anemic. I had the ablsion 5 years ago this summer and it was the best decision. I feel great. I have NO period at all. After the surgery take it easy - for 1-2 weeks I was still tired and then great. You have a clear fluid that leaks for that time. Once that went away, I was great. It has been so nice to have all my "parts" and not have to deal with a period at all. I still crave chocolate though monthly!

In 2002 I had a complete abdominal hysterectomy (see other post I have replied to for details).

The EA was an option for me but my Dr. said that they do not always work. I wanted to stop all the outpatient procedures and get on with my life.

The hysterectomy is by far the best thing I have ever done. I feel better, look younger, more energy, better sex drive (Can't get preggo!!)

I am very pleased with my choice of hysterectomy.

I had the EA done in July of last year. it did not work at all for me. I'm going in next week for a hysterectomy. If you're sure about not having kiddos I would just do the Hyst. and save yourself some time!

I had an ablation done almost a year ago due to heavy bleeding that lasted 1-2 weeks. I made the decision to have this done and could not be happier. I did have VERY minimal bleeding for a few days followed by a clear/light yellow discharge for sometime folowing. My doctor said that the clear discharge was from the "blisters" inside my uterus. She said the longer you drain the better the "burn". I do have cramps every so often and do indeed get grumpy ~ my hormones. But I do not regret the procedure and the recovery is very minimal! I would definately try this route first!

I had the procedure in 2000 and it has been great. I no longer have periods (they were lasting forever) and no adverse effects. For me it was a blessing.

Hi Stephanie. I had the EA done about 4 years ago. I was having heavy periods that lasted about 22-25 days out of the month. But I never had cramps at all. My Dr suggested I do this before having a hysterectomy. At first the procedure didn't work for me at all. It took about 8 months and then all of a sudden my periods went down to about 1-3 days. OMG! What a huge blessing it was. BUT, I now have the worse cramps ever that last the entire time I'm on my period. For me, since I had the procedure due to the length of my period, it is so worth 1-3 days of cramping than having 25 days of horendous bleeding.
