"Genie" Smells

Please help. We have tried everything. In my grandson's room, we have a diaper genie and even though I have tried nearly everything I can think of, the smell coming from the room is horrible. Obviously, the diaper genie's job is to hold the dirty diapers, but I thought there would be less of an odor than if I just used a regular trash can. I have tried cleaning it with ammonia, bleach, baking soda and vineger, but nothing seems to work. What can I do to 'de-funk' the room?

What can I do next?

After reading pretty much the same response, we ditched the genie. There is nothing worse than cleaning and cleaning only to have that horrible smell in your home.

I put coffee pods in the bottom of my diaper pail and it got rid of the smell. It's replaced with the smell of coffee!

Get rid of the Genie. I had two versions- the original and new and improved and they both stunk terribly. So much so, my baby refused to sleep in his room until I got rid of it. Cleaning them does not work. That smell permeates the plastic and it's in there for good.

After much trial and error, I found that using plastic bags from bread/buns and recycling plastic shopping bags from stores to wrap individual diapers before tossing them into a regular trash can the best way to go. Each night, empty the garbage and smell is practically non-existent.

We use grocery sacks, put the diaper in it and finish the diapering process by taking it out of the house to the trash outside. Our house doesn't have the smell stored up in the room except for while the diapering is going on...If you put a fan on and crack a window, it leaves quickly. Febreeze sprays are good.

Put the diaper Genie in the garage.

Why bother with one? It sounds disgusting having dirty diapers standing around inside the house for a length of time , why not just throw it out in the main trash as soon as you have changed a dirty one?

There is a spray called Poo-pourri and they have a spray for diapers... you sprtiz it in the diaper and the smell goes away. I carry another fragrance in my purse for those moments at the public restrooms... I know it works there. Maybe it will help with your diaper situation.

Flip the poop into the toilet before you throw the diaper away. Human waste is not meant to be thrown away. IMO, it's the equivalent of you pooping in the trash can and leaving it sit for days. I'm sure you wouldn't do that! All you have to do is turn the diaper inside out over the toilet and most of the waste will come right off.

Ours was terrible! I wound up just buying a new one, because nothing took the smell out.
I now have the Diaper Genie "Elite", and it's less of a problem.

please be aware that all the chemical you use on the things for your child is toxic and can cause problems to you child. If lysol, bleach or what ever of a kind should not be use in a room where they sleep or on what they have around. I just like to mention this in general.
